    Rubber seal question

    Hello all,

Dumbest question you will hear all day. icon_rolleyes.gif

My neighbors gave me a Hamilton Beach crock pot for Christmas and it came with this rubber seal to put around the base of the lid during cooking. I cannot get the blasted thing on there to save my life. Does anyone have any tips for someone who doesn't have anyone to come over and hold the thing alongside them to get it on right?

Secondly will it really lose that much water or steam if I don't use it? Maybe I can just throw it away.

My Crock Pot brand crock pots never had the rubber seal.

    Thanks in advance.

I don't have that model, but I have a crock that lost its lid ages ago. I cover with foil and then put a pot lid that does not quite fit over that. It works just fine. I suspect yours will work just fine also

This could be the dumbest answer...

Hamilton Beach makes crock pots with silicone bands to hold the lids on while transporting. You couldn't be referring to that, could you?

Actually no, the seal is not for transporting. The seal goes at the base of the lid. It is solid white and there is only 1, not 2 of them. I made Chicken Ole in it last night without the seal and it turned out perfect...tossing the seal. I only posted here in case there was something I was overlooking...

I have that for my crockpot as well. It is not a seal. It goes around the handles and lid to keep it in place for transporting, kind of like a big rubber band.

ETA It is only 1 band even though the picture makes it look like 2.
