    I wonder if it's less that you need particular recipes than you need a standard pantry list that is flexible enough to accomodate anything you'd like to make, friend.

    I always keep a bag of chocolate chips on hand for Milk Brownies I make them with butter not margarine. Everyone loves them and they are requested often.
    You can make buttermilk with 2 Tablespoons vinegar to 1 cup milk. Just mix in the (white) vinegar and wait a minute or two for it to curdle. Buttermilk is great in all types of "scratch" cakes.
    There is a recipe on the back of the Hershey's cocoa can for chocolate cake, too. It's a great, simple recipe.

    Also remember that you can easily make homemade buttermilk as an alternative if you don't have it on hand, by adding one tablespoon white vinegar or lemon juice to one cup of milk; or use this recipe with one can of evaporated milk to make 4 cups:

    You can also freeze milk but must use it within a couple of days of unthawing.
