Probably Mark Twain would be fun. Or Noah.

What was the most humiliating meal you ever served?

At my friends request I cooked a buffet-type meal for her birthday, making a fair bit of it at home, bringing it to her home and warming it up. Only later did I realise that I had to forgotten to warm up the chicken curry and NOBODY said a word! how embarrassing icon_redface.gif icon_redface.gif

what cooking bloopers have you had?
    Mon May 06, 2013 6:01 am Groupie
When I was a kid and just learning to bake I wanted to make brown sugar bars. Instead of using 1/2 tsp. baking soda I used 1/2 cup! Yuck! As an adult, though, I tried to make acorn squash more palatable and added sour cream and brown sugar and butter, god knows what else. Another yuck! ( I hate acorn squash! yuck.gif )

    Do you like winter squash?

I love all squashes! Once I was dehydrating pumpkin and when it was done I could not get the pumpkin off of the trays. Shards of pumpkin were slashing my fingers to pieces, I was so frustrated, crying, I tossed all nine trays into the bathtub and turned on the shower. Then the tub wouldn't drain and the pipes were clogged with pumpkin puree. DH was not too happy.

What was the absolute worst dinner party you ever went to?
    Mon May 06, 2013 5:45 pm Groupie
Oh, that's easy! We went to my aunt and uncles place for a turkey dinner that she was going to make on the grill. At 9:30 PM we finally gave up on the meal and went home, the grill wasn't even started yet! I offered to get things started a few times, but no, she will start it soon! Ha, I wonder if it ever got made that night!

I was also invited to my aunt's and uncle's shindig. I walked into the house and a horrible smell hit me and I started to wretch and vomit. Liver.

Most embarrassing experience when you had 'company'?
    Mon May 06, 2013 6:29 pm Groupie

Another easy one! We live in the frozen north and one winter our pipes froze, so we all had to troop down to the gas station to, well, you know, use the facilities!

While cooking a big Holiday meal I had a bit too much wine and could no longer function in the kitchen. Someone else had to finish cooking for me! icon_redface.gif

What is your worst kitchen disaster?
    Mon May 06, 2013 8:45 pm Groupie
I can't think of anything disastrous, but my grandma told a story of using a pressure cooker to make tomato juice. It blew up and yes, tomato juice all over! Ceiling, walls, everywhere! I am still nervous about using mine, but they have improved over the years.
Oh, scratch that! I just remembered one time I was making baked beans, put them in a low oven and fell asleep. Hours later woke up to find dried pellets. rotfl.gif

Not mine, in fact, but my first husband, who blew up a pressure cooker with pea soup in it (in his mothers kitchen), and another time put a huge batch of hot cross bun dough to prove, in a plastic washing bowl, in a warm oven, but misjudged just how warm the oven was icon_eek.gif - that was my mothers oven .... icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

have you made hot cross buns from scratch?
    Tue May 07, 2013 4:43 am Groupie

    Tue May 07, 2013 11:32 am Groupie

What would you take to a bake sale?
    Tue May 07, 2013 12:32 pm Groupie
I had a meat pie at a street fair once, it was delicious! I will have to make some one day!

Pie-everybody loves pie, but no one likes to make it!
