Flax seed meal adds such a nice nutty quality to breads and of course using the ground seed gives you the nutritional benefit that you cannot get from using the seeds whole.

Found you guys and Red, that bread looks so good - so when you say ground flax seed is it already ground or do you grind it yourself?

I like grinding whole seeds but I used mine all up. The stores here just sell the meal which I'm getting fond of.

I have flax seed coming here in my shipment - that's why I was wonderfing if I have to grind them before using or what

These seeds do not want to be digested. One author says that soaking takes care of that, others advise grinding. I do both, but prefer a coarse grind. I learned that these soak up a good deal of liquid, about 3 oz water for 2 oz flax seed. Once soaked, I add directly to the dough and it doesn't affect the hydration.

Oh, thanks Red, sure glad I asked as I had no idea. How long do you let them soak - until the liquid is gone?

I don't know. After begoogling the subject, I find little on soaking. Most sources say that ground is better than whole to get the nutrition and other than that, treat flax meal like a dry ingredient in recipes.
I did find this site: http://www.livestrong.com/article/480904-what-are-the-benefits-of-soaking-ground-flaxseeds/

And be sure to store the flax seed in the freezer so they don't go rancid!

Wow, there's more to this flax than I thought - so hope they are OK when they arrive and I'll freeze them, but will soak and now I've got to find a grinder.

When I soak mine, they suck up the water immediately! I bought them already ground. I didn't even realize it. Reds bread was the first time I have used them!

Hey folks, I'm on the Gulf coast for a few days studying the distribution of sand particles across human media.
We made spinach, mozzarella and cherry tomato pizza on dough from 100% Whole Wheat Pizza Dough and Pizza Tips.
We ate it on the balcony overlooking the beach. I was going to take a picture, but it was all gone.
