KateL for The Wild Bunch had a difficult time narrowing our favorites to two, but these opened our eyes with wonder:

Lamb and Mint Patties / Burgers #464247 by **Jubes**

Those patties had the freshest taste. DH had sworn he hated lamb, but now all he can talk about is having more of Jubes' patties. All that, and these are gluten free!

Chicken, Ham and Leek Pie #483588 by AlaskaPam

This time, I had to eat my words. I had always avoided pot pies, but this pie was full of chicken and ham with leeks to cover. The sauce was minimal, but delectable. DH sends special thanks to AlaskaPam for converting me.

Traveling with The Wild Bunch was Wild at times, but everyone cooked up a storm. Our tastes and preferences varied widely, so I couldn't wait to see what others had been cooking. I got the biggest kick out of a very pregnant smellyvegetarian knocking out dishes, making each a little healthier than she found it; she will probably deliver just after reporting on her two favorites of ZWT8! Pammyowl and I worked together to tailor a few recipes; I admired her bravery in making Spotted Dog Cakelike Raisin Bread and carefully making suggestions to improve it -- who better than a professional baker! (Post ZWT8 we'll compare notes when I experiment more with that recipe.) I will also remember fondly how Debbie R. helped tweak our Alamo story and then let her imagination run wild for our team beverage, The Wild Bunch Black and Tan Mocktail.

And who could forget the outrageous speedos Maryland Jim wore to our pool parties? I loved having katew on our team from Australia, that made us international, and I learned even more about the Australian gusto for cooking. I looked forward to the mouthwatering photos gailanng posted, and her recipes were winners, too! Momaphet and IngridH somehow guided all of us despite hectic work schedules. They even made time for the pool boys. Yes, we were The Wild Bunch of ZWT8!

    - For the Chefs Gone Wild, I'm here to share our personal Best of Tour choices. I say "our" because DH & I collaborate on this decision & it's usually a source of disagreement. For ZWT-8, we had a most unusual result & it prob won't happen again in our lifetime icon_exclaim.gif We agreed on a single stand-alone recipe we felt shined brighter than all others: Crock Pot Creme Brulee, #372768 by Nif (France) - It was simply extraordinary in every way icon_exclaim.gif yummy.gif (w/the bonus of the crock-pot cooking method). icon_smile.gif

    - (1 memory I'll never forget for sure) icon_exclaim.gif - Nif's lovely recipe had a bumpy start on its road to becoming our Best of Tour. I've made it 3 times now: #3) Made after a spec request from DH that it be served as dessert to dinner guests .. #2) The "official" taste test by DH & myself .. & .. #1) A failed 1st effort I've kept secret from DH & Nif til now. icon_redface.gif While hastily measuring ingredients, I accidentally grabbed my storage container for salt instead of the 1 for sugar icon_exclaim.gif Can you imagine the horror of that 1st taste icon_question.gif I did the only thing I could do - I started again from scratch. It didn't start out looking destined to be our Best of Tour, but it overcame the "Twisted One's" obstacle put in its way. icon_redface.gif icon_rolleyes.gif

That said, Part 2 of our decision was also pretty unusual. We both had 2-way ties for 2nd place icon_exclaim.gif
For my tie, I esp loved:
... Mexican Chicken Rice Soup (Caldo Cantina), #368979 by Debbie R. (Mexico, etc.) - This recipe brought back all the memories of vacations spent in Albuquerque & Santa Fe, New Mexico. Loved the simplicity & the lime flavour icon_exclaim.gif yummy.gif
... Pepper and Cheddar Shortbread Canaps With Smoked Salmon, #399436 by Dreamer in Ontario (Great Britain & Ireland) - A great find to use as a starter course for dinner parties in Iceland where smoked salmon is revered & considered a "staple" at our house. yummy.gif
DH's tie was fairly predictable: - He's a homemade bread freak & esp liked these 2 recipes (Me too, btw). icon_smile.gif
    ... Tapenade Bread (A B M), #370910 by mersaydees (Spain & Portugal) yummy.gif
... Sweet Coconut Curry Bread (Abm), #471823 by Chocolatl (India) yummy.gif

Thx to my CGW team-mates for a rousing good time. We were clearly the chattiest team in case you didn't notice. Per Annacia's tale & to the surprise of her DH, loof committed bigamy in Spain icon_exclaim.gif Elmotoo popped in & out & kept us entertained. awalde, Tea Girl & alvinakatz gave us welcome expertise on the Indian cuisine. We were a diverse grp spread all over the globe, so Melanie D kept us grounded in EST & Nif's challenge was to keep all of us focused. awalde was our "secret weapon" - An amazing cooking machine w/a DD who followed her around w/a camera icon_exclaim.gif ... Finally, I'd be remiss if I didn't also add a spec thx to our Tour Guides for their massive creative genius & hard work! wave.gif

India was my favorite place we visited. I love all the healthy spice and richness of this far away place.

Salmon in Bengali Mustard Sauce #482974 by MomLuvs6

Salmon With Lentils and Mustard-Herb Butter (Saumon Aux Lentille #482239 by Nancy`s Pantry

Loved the time playing with my wonderful teammates Nan that took control and made a great captain, Judy, Mia, Pat, Karen, Magpie, Shannon, and Cass was all there and had each others backs. For the

My favourites of the tour were

Carmelized Mango Soup With Poppy Seed Rice Pudding 457202 by our very own Cadillac Girl and Extreme Kahlua Chocolate Mousse 408294
    by Annacia

A special moment for me would have been when I started figureing out how the tour worked after annoying my cookbook guru and team leaders on multiple occassions because I was so eager to just get cooking. Luckily I figured stuff out otherwise I probably would have disqualified myself. I really enjoyed getting more and more involved as the tour progressed, so it was great when I started to know where to look for the challenges.

    My two winners were

Chicken With Avocado and Nut Sauce 481952
    Poached Chicken With Tarragon 483538

with a runner-up of Aubergine and Pepper Delight 481943

The chicken-avocado recipe was so good that I licked the cooking pan clean....reminding me of all the cake and cookie batter bowls I "cleaned" as a kid. I would have never thought an entree would inspire that kind of "every last drop" behavior.

I was so impressed with the chicken-tarragon recipe that I ordered the cookbook, thus creating a new memory: the thrill of getting that cookbook in my hand. That's the only time one recipe has inspired me to get the entire cookbook.

We have some very talented chefs on tour again this year. Literally every recipe I tried was a hit with either 4 or 5 stars! So narrowing this down to two is really based on not only the flavors but for me how easy it is to make based on having the ingredients always handy.

One Dish Chicken and Bows #248350 by LifeIsGood

Quick Corn and Zucchini Saute #480824 by breezermom

One of my favorite moments of this tour with my group is the birth of two babies related to our teammates. My grandson was born on July 31st and then AZPARCYCHs little girl was just a couple weeks after that - our Princess Madelynn Mae. The team was just so wonderful and very relaxed so it made the tour tremendously fun!! I really enjoyed getting to know everyone better.

Thanks to everyone who helped put on this show. I am definitely signing up for reminders for ZWT9. icon_smile.gif

Reporting in for the Honeys. My two favorites of ZWT8 were:

Haricots Verts With Carmelized Shallots #482707 by breezermom I couldn't believe the amount of flavor with such an easy recipe. I don't think I ever want to cook green beans any other way.
    Photobucket

Sopapillas #427421 by NorthwestGal These brought back memories of a wonderful trip to Sante Fe with my family. It wasn't only the memories that made me put them into the top 2, these are amzaing!!!
    Photobucket

I have many great memories with the Honeys and lots of laughs. We have so many rolling head icons on our pages, I thought they would roll right off. Our captain Muffin Goddess was amazing, keeping us motivated and rooting us on (and keeping us straight with all the "red tape" kind of jobs), breezermom was a cooking machine, Dreamer in Ontario, Student Chef and Florida Native were always helping out with the challenges and doing a lot of our team stories, lots of cooking etc.., Sharon123 had limited access to a computer but still managed to make lots of recipes and check into our thread (wouldn't be a ZWT without Sharon), and iewe always made the deadlines and loved her chocolate. I can't just pick one fun team memory , since there were so many. I just liked how our team shared with one another..that's what really made our team solid. Oh and watching Dreamer in Ontario ride in on her new motorcycle!

I'd say the best of the best was also the most simple dish I made!

    Pan De Tomate by momaphet

My other favorite was Spicy Black Bean Burgers by Charmie777

The best memory for me was the reaction from our team when our fabulous and original team captain had to bow out mid-tour. The Bistro Babes rushed to the scene calmly and organized everything perfectly in her absence.

Oh Miss Susie, only two choices this is very difficult, we enjoyed all the recipes that we tried and so many of them went into my Favorites Cookbook for 2012 for play in January. Wish it could have been two from each country and then I still would have had a difficult choice.

Thank you to all the talented chefs whose recipes we tried during the tour. We loved and enjoyed your dishes very much. Must say that we ate and drank very well, I wish it wasn't over.

The recipe choices were not unanimous, so I have listed my dh's favorites two and my favorite two.

These are my dh's favorites no hands down....he couldn't stop raving about them.

    Madeira Sauce #371216 by diner524 - Spain

Best Steak Marinade #479946 by Lavender Lynn - Australia

These were two of my favorites...wow was this hard, because I loved so many of the dishes that we tried.

Cardamom & Coconut Pilau Cardamom & Coconut Pilau by **Jubes** - India

Cantaloupe Sherbet Cantaloupe Sherbet by Paula G - Australia

A big thank you to all the hosts and tour giudes for this trip, you made a special time, even better.

I was so lucky, I was on a terrific team with an incredible group of ladies, who are talented chefs, great story tellers and fantastic photographers. Lauralie41, Lavander Lynn, diner524, Starrynews, MomLuvs6, morgainegeiser and cookingpompom and Queen Dana.

We also had a beautiful red dragon mascot, win or lose, we are already winners in my mind. I am thankful for the new friends I made and for being able to spend time with dear friends that I have known for many years.

We had so much fun, the team spirit on our team was outstanding...everyone contributed to everything that was asked to be done and the results were fantastic.

Wonderful memories of the trip include all the tour sites of course, the food, the people, the challenges and the commaradary.

Starting with France: ~ La Batterie de Cuisine ~Challenge ; who wouldn't want free money ($500.00) to spend on Kitchen Items from France....it was a blast...

In Spain the : ~Saffron Farm Team Challenge and the ~Tapas Party were so much fun, the collabaration was terrific and resulted in terrific stories.

You can't visit Australia without sampling BBQ - the ~Great Backyard Barbie Challenge ~ provided just this opportunity....Shrimp on the barbie was delicious.

The ZWT8 ~ Crossword Challenge was fun, a perfect hour spent with a cup of tea and a slice of kiwi bread from New Zealand.

What's a visit to Mexico without chocolate....the ~ Food of the Aztecs ~ filled this craving beautifully, although I must admit to sampling many cocoa drinks.

In Great Britain, Ireland and Scotland we enjoyed the best time ever, each member picked their favorite places for the Group Tour.

The Fearless planned a tour that was so much fun and so captivating, truly a tour to remember for a life time. We even saw Will & Kate.

The music challenge was challenging, it was a trip down memory lane for me, love British music and the pub crawl, wow.

A big thank you to my teammates for the delicious drink that was created ....It was perfect, it had coffee in it, of course I loved it.

Hot Sweet Dragon Drink #485536 by diner524

Everything in beautiful exotic India was fun, from the ~ Colors of India ~ Challenge to the incredible lunch system - Tiffins and it wouldn't be complete with out learning about the beautiful spices of India.
