    I make Whipped Honey Butter With Varieties! a fair amount which is a good basic sweet butter.

    I've tried a variety of goat cheese and cream cheese spreads. Based on my lousy experience last night, I've learned what not to include. By elimination, this will be my next recipe to try: Goat Cheese Spread (From Thornton Winery)

    If I have too much kefir hanging around, I strain it until it become cream cheesy in consistency and I've been mixing in fresh herbs from my garden - lemon thyme, basil, parsley, a little lovage for contrast. Sometimes a little fresh garlic or shallot. It depends on how quickly I can use it up, don't want anything overwhelming the delicate herbs.

    I have rosemary but that does not work that well in a spread. Unless you are going to use it to spread under the skin of chicken or turkey, of course.

    I have made a few quick jams with fresh fruit - just cook it up with some sugar and leave in the fridge. Those are good. I'm not in the mood to can.

    Oh, one of my markets sells smoked salmon trimmings for cheap and I've been mixing that with the kefir cream cheese or regular cream cheese - mmmmmmm. Need to mix by hand to maintain the quality of the salmon. But will whip the cheese with the blender to soften it up. I might add some capers to it, pepper - really nothing else.

    That sounds good.

    I wish I had taken photos, but for a group meeting tonight, I took flax seed baguettes, goat cheese spread, honey butter, aged gouda (my favorite cheese), Mission figs, sweet cherries and Italian dried salami. The figs and goat cheese spread were surprisingly good together.

    My favorite toppings would depend on the type/flavor of the bread.
    Some of my favorites include:
    Fresh, local "sweet" (unsalted) butter
    Homemade honey butter
    Homemade garlic and herb butter
    Any kind of cheese or cheese spread (I am addicted to cheeses)
    Homemade fruit spreads or low sugar jams
    Cream cheese

    My all time favorite is dunking the heel of freshly baked, crusty Italian bread into a pot of tomato sauce (aka gravy) that I am making. icon_twisted.gif
