Many years ago, when I was a graduate student and working part time, I had a student co-worker who had recently emigrated from Romania. I loved listening to her stories of the beautiful coasts and beaches and of course we loved to share food tips.

Romania has been influenced by many culinary traditions ranging from the Ottaman Empire to its neighbors - Germans, Serbs, Bulgarians and Hungarians. But it retains its own character and traditions.

Soups are a favored dish and frequently have a sour flavor from greens or lemon and vinegar. Romania is the second-largest world-wide producer of plums, so it's not a surprise that plum brandy is the favored liquor! And it has a 3000 year history of wine - how can you not help but love a country that loves its wine?

We have quite a few recipes in our database that have Romanian origins:

    Littlemafia's Romanian Sour Soup(Ciorba)
Sausage and Cabbage Ciorba - I've made this one it is good
Vegetarian, Crock Pot Romanian Bean Soup
    Romanian Lettuce Soup
    Broedlaewend (Romanian Beef Soup)

    Meat and Fish:
    Romanian Sarmale (Cabbage Rolls)
    Chicken Ghiveci (Romanian Braised Chicken)
Mititei - Romanian Beef Sausage Rolls
    Romanian Baked White Fish
and this sauce which is served with meats Mujdei De Usturoi---Romanian Garlic Sauce

Eggplant (Aubergine) Appetizer - Romanian Style - (Vinete)
    Ghiveci---Romanian Vegetable Stew
    Romanian Mousaka
Romanian Eggplant Spread (Salata De Vinate)
    Fasole Frecata--Romanian Mashed Beans
    Romanian Marinated Mushrooms
    Romanian Potato Salad

    Cozonac-Romanian Holiday Sweet Bread
    Romanian Apple Pie
    Romanian Gingerbread

I hope you find something new to try or suggest other delicious recipes from Romania!
