Just a word of caution. Some newer crocker cookers run hotter than the older models. Lots of recipes were written with the older units in mind, so be aware that a recipe saying "cook on low for 8 to 10 hours" might be done in 6 or 7 with a "hot" crock pot.

It also is important that the crock be filled from 1/2 to 2/3 full to be within a normal operating range. Heat is usually supplied on the sides of these units, so the food needs to be near the heating elements.
