My brother sent me this link, commenting, "For those interested in understanding these kinds of realities... Shockingly informational article from a very reputable organization. Curious that such the NASP would publish such candid information, including the current status and future trends of a collapse...I just re-read that article...so well written, no fluff, no alarm, just facts and the way things could go. History repeats itself, and most folks are just in denial that it could happen here."

Why hasn't anyone replied to this. I'm not going politics because I think most of our government officials n both sides are self surving. Our dollar is becoming worthless. We live near the Mexican border. Every time we go to Mexico our curency is worth less. Many recommend buying gold which is out of sight or silver. With the droughts across the nation our food supply is dwindling. Farmers will have to start killing their livestock. Hopefully it will be on sale for a while but then prices will skyrocket. I pray this isn't what's going to happen but I am canning and dehydrating and freezing food every day just in case. I went hungry once and never want to again.

Sounds to me like you are being wise. I wouldn't much count on freezing foods to last long. Given the greed of both government and corporate America, I wouldn't trust our power grid to prove much more reliable than that of India. I am buying silver at every turn. I do believe that after the election in November, regardless who wins, that some type of "collapse" is going to occur. I am just looking for ways to "shore up" my weak points, as the collapse(if it occurs) is likely to happen during the winter months. Though I live in the South, I live at about 4k feet in elevation. Winters can be brutal, and unforgiving. I have already spent two winters here when getting off this mountain was impossible from mid December to mid March. An extended power outage could be disastrous during this period. With every weekly visit to the grocery store, I buy at least one "sustanance" item in preparation.

My freezers are full. I am dehydrating and right now canning, mostly meat. At our grocery store they are having fantastic sales.. Guess what! When farmers can't feed their livestock they sell them. Once the sales are over I expect it will skyrocket. I'm getting food saver buckets at the local bakeries to store flour sugar peas beans and what ever else I can get for reasonable. The whole u.s. is burning up and we are supposed to feed the world! I don't think any more.

Again, sound like you are doing well, and again I'll state that you might not want to count of frozen foods to get you through more than a week. Without electricity, unless outside temps are such that they can be preserved, you are goint to hurting. By the end of this year, grains, beans, rice, etc., are going to hit hard. I am looking for ways to preserve these items. I'm looking at a food saver, but that seems almost rediculous in some ways

You know what? All some folks need is a little motivation. Now, I'm not a prepper, by any means, but let's just be reasonable in discussion and not talk about the whys, but the ends.

Folks buy health insurance. Why? Obvious. Folks buy car insurance. Why? Obvious. Folks buy home insurance. Why? ...

These are all standard practice in society today. I think it's sound to protect your life and family, your transportation, and your home. The one thing folks forget in that is food. You can't buy food insurance from a broker. There is no station where you go fill up on water, and water isn't insured or assured.

So, what do you do? The consensus we hear is that if a disaster occurs in a locale, there are three days worth of food in the chain for that locale. Look at your grocery shelves. It's probably true. The problem comes when those three days end, but want to know a secret? What's on the shelves will only feed the quickest to the grocery for three days, and do you REALLY think that they're going to leave you what you expect is your due ration if you're late? Look at videos. Folks go in and clean shelves, and it isn't orderly, and it isn't all that kind.

So, you're suddenly stuck in an untenable position. Little food, no guarantee of water, and everything in your fridge/freezer is rotting for lack of electricity.

Insurance. You need insurance for this, but no one has it, and no one will issue it to you. You need to make it for yourself. And that doesn't make you odd or fringe or an outcast from society. It just makes you prudent and wise. So you store food and things and that's a savings account. Insurance, if you will. Lose your job? You can still eat and have whatever money for bills. Disaster? You can still eat and hopefully weather it. Collapse? You can stil.....

Get the point?

looks like drewmatt12 just came back with a new chef name and is again spamming the Emergency Food forum by advertising his book. I think there are about 4-5 new posts after his original ones were taken down.
