Apples! German Recipes!

Hi! All! It's apple time! Fall is in the air, though we are looking at Hurricane Isaac right now. We are as prepared as can be. The eye of Katrina came right through here last time, but we are 60 miles due north of Gulfport and are hoping for the best.
I decided to take my mind off the storm and baked a new recipe of Apple Bread with a Caramel Glaze. It it's good I'll post it here.
What is your favorite German Apple Recipe???

Hi Mia! We were fortunate this time around. We had 10 inches of rain. some roof leak and the yatd looks a mess with a gezillian pine cones down and lots of small branches.
One of my favorite Apple recipes was allways my mother "Apfle Tortr"
made in a very large sprinform pan and awesome Mürbeteig. Sometimes with Streußel on top. YUM. I have never been able to quite make it like hers!x :wave;

My mom's Apfeltorte was with Mürbeteig, too (shortcrust pastry). I LOVED it!
The Netherlands are famous for their appelgebak (apple cake), too, so living at the Dutch border, you find their apple tarts and cakes and pies everywhere.

Mia1 How did The liver Recipe sneak into the apple recipes???

I want to dhare a recipe here. that i came across and at first it sounded too weird to me, but i am glad i tried it. Evryone that tried it wanted the recipe. I hpoe yiu can get the Pudding where yiuare!
It is the Best Apple Pie recipe!!!!

UNBELIEVABLE APPLE PIE1
1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust (deep dish)
3-4 Granny Smith Apples, peeled, cored ,sloced. combine apples and pudding ( this is quite a tart and juicy apple)
1 (3-1/2 ounce box) Coconut Cream or Vanilla Pudding) NOT Instant.

Topping:
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon

1. in a bowl combine apples and pudding. Toss well to combine.
2. Pour into pie crust.
3. mix topping ingredients until crumbly ( Steußel)
4. Sprinkle over the apples
5. Bake @ 350 F 35-30 minutes until topping is golden and pie bubbles.
Serve with whipped cream!!!

That pie sounds super-yummy! I can get vanilla pudding but not coconut I guess. But I can make coconut pudding myself.

You need the dry pudding to mix with the apple!!! So don't cook coconut pudding!!!

This is the best apple pie! The secret is the apple juice concentrate. I've never tried it with the boiled cider.

Koechin, maybe I can add some coconut flakes to the dry pudding mix. It would be worth a try, wouldn't it?

Actually the Germans have adapted many non German recipes meanwhile.

Besides that, there are other recipes with apples which are not necessarily desserts. heaven and Earth, e.g., one of my favourite recipes. "Himmel und Erde" in German.
It's one of the typical regional dishes here, made of potatoes and apples. My MIL makes it this way:
Equal amount of each potatoes and apples, a bit sugar and lemon juice, bacon grease, onion to taste, salt, pepper.
Boil the potatoes in salted water, then lightly mash, so that there are still lumps. Season with some pepper to taste. In a saucepan, combine peeled, cored and sliced apples with some sugar and lemon juice, saute, then lightly mash, too, and mix with the potatoes, keep warm in the oven.
In the bacon grease, fry the sliced onions until nicely browned.
Divide potato and apple mixture onto plates, garnish with the onions and some of the bacon grease poured over, serve with sausages, blood sausage or meatballs or German meatloaf.

You can also add some fried bacon if you like, it matches well with the onions.

Sometimes my MIL also added some pears to the apples, my FIL was very fond of that.
