Hi, I'm Boomette and I'm the host of Bargain Basement Game. Let's have fun! It's a great way to discover great recipes.

This game is similar to Tag, but instead focuses on recipes with lower ratings or unreviewed OLDER recipes. Recipes need to be either reviewed with a rating of 3 stars or under or recipes which have been posted over 2 years or more and do not have any reviews. These potentially great recipes have been "marked down" - either they have a flaw that needs tweaking, been overlooked, or they are seemingly good recipes that maybe deserve a second chance.

How to Play:

1) Choose ANY recipe with a rating of 3 STARS OR UNDER or an UNREVIEWED recipe that has been posted 2 years or more.

2) Post a reply to this thread saying which recipe you are tagging. Please include the recipe ID number and name.

An easy format for everyone to read is:
Boomette is tagging Recipe #xxxxxx, #xxxxxx
If you type it without the space between the # sign and the actual recipe number the site will automatically create a link to the recipe. The second listing of the number is to verify the recipe you would like to make.

3) Make it within 2 weeks and report back to this thread that you have completed your tag. We love to hear about things that worked or didn't work and if you have photos please share!

(The recipe might not turn out well after all, but at least you can provide a helpful review with suggestions to improve it - or it may turn out to be a real gem!)

Deadlines and Extensions

When you chose to tag someone’s recipe, you are committing to making that recipe and reviewing it within 2 weeks (14 days). We realize life sometimes does get in the way of our cooking/tagging, so if you aren’t going to be able to meet the 2 week deadline, please ask us for an additional 2 week extension before the deadline.

Players will be put on the Restricted List once they have passed the 4 weeks (28 days) deadline, unless they have special circumstances. If you feel you have a special circumstance preventing you from completing a tag within 4 weeks, please contact me. Once on the Restricted List, you will no longer be able to participate in any of the games or events in the “Cooking Games with Friends Forum” until you have made and reviewed any recipes that have you on that list. This is done in order to keep it fair for all players in the games. If you want to make sure you are not on this list, please go HERE and look for your name.

How to find lower rated recipes:

1. Click on "Recipes" at the top of the Home Page.
2. On the right side of the page is the site's RECIPE SIFTER. Click on that and reduce the recipes by choosing a category that fits your needs. You can continue to filter the recipe by choosing other categories through that sifter.
4. Sort the list by "Most Popular" then go to the last page and work your way backward until you find a page that has some recipes with 3 or less total stars.

You can choose any recipe you like, it is up to you. As long as the recipe has a cumulative review total of 3 stars or less, then it is eligible for this game - even if someone has already selected it previously.
Once a recipe has 4 stars (cumulative total), then it is no longer eligible for this game.
Try to select recipes that, despite the lower rating, appeal to you and that you think someone would enjoy making.

NOTE: Just because a recipe has a low rating, doesn't mean the rating was unmerited. The point here is not to criticize a review, but to promote a recipe that may be getting overlooked due to one person's experience with it.
