Hi, I have recently developed an allergy to Potatos, a very severe allergy. I used to really enjoy eating fishcakes and cheese and onion pasties etc. Not a major meat eater.

I am really struggling to find good recepies to do these.

Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Gosh, that would be a hard one for me! I did a little research and see that if you are allergic to potatoes, you should also avoid
    • Chilly
    • Tobacco
    • Bell pepper
    • Cayenne pepper
    • Red pepper
    • Paprika
    • Pear
    • Melon
    • Cherry
    • Eggplant
    • Tomato

But that still leaves quite a bit of latitude. In fishcakes, for example you can probably substitute mashed sweet potatoes, cauliflower or beans for the mashed potatoes to bind the ingredients. I often use rutabagas in stews and I am sure they would work well in meat pies.

Also you can use the recipe sifter to identify recipes that do not use potatoes. For example, I searched for "fish cakes" and then used the recipe sifter to eliminate potatoes. This is what I found, http://www.food.com/recipe-finder/all/fish-cakes?exclingre=1998,7828,2977,10620,12744,1997,4056,4709

Are you trying to find substitutions for potato only? I have one food related allergy that has been confirmed by an allergy MD (honey dew - I have allergy to ragweed which can predispose people to honey dew allergy) but can eat all other melons.

If potato only, perhaps using sweet potato, kabocha (pumpkin), and pumpkin for regular potatoes.

    Hi,

Thanks. No it is not just potato, sweet potato, cabbage, letiuce, green peppers (my husbands says anything green) Cauliflower, nuts, and not sure what else just yet.

No prob with tomatoes, leak, peas (although we suspected them at one point) Yorkshire puddings that I use alot now when I have roast dinners.

I am at my wits end with it to be honest. I am awaiting my next appointment which is in July as they lost paperwork between a hospital procedure and consultant so I have not seen anyone since last year. He was going to refer me to dietitians if the next test was clear, but could not have test as could not keep the prep down. It really has been a nightmare. I know there is light at the end of the tunnel as they say, but it just feels a long way off.

It is amazing how much stuff has potato starch which I have to be a little careful with.

I am frightened of eating out incase of embaressing syptoms icon_redface.gif Plus not nice being sick when you are out. Even at someone elses house who you know well.

Thanks for the tip on the searching.

    Zucchini Pancakes:

grate about 2-3 cups of zucchini or a mix of zucchini and carrots
    1 egg
    1/4-1/2 cup of flour
    1 tsp of salt

Then you can season anyway you want:

    You could use curry paste
    Cajun seasonings
    garlic
    chili powder and cumin

If you're looking for a binder to hold things together than flour is probably your best bet.

If you're looking for starch side dishes how about rice?

How about kabocha pumpkin and pumpkins? We use kabocha in place of potatoes a lot in Japan even for making croquettes, stews, etc.
