Bahrain is officially known as the Kingdom of Bahrain. It has an area of 274 square miles(727 square kilomtres) and is approximately four times the size of Washington, DC. Bahrain is an archipelago of 36 islands located off the eastern coast of Saudi Arabia on the western shores of the Persian Gulf.

In 2010, the population stood at 1,214,705, including about 235,108 non-nationals, as stated by the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs. The ethnic groups consist of Bahraini 63%, Asian 19%, other Arab 10%, Iranian 8%.
It is estimated that 98% of the population are Muslim and there are small Christian, Jewish, Baha’i, and Hindu communities.
The official language of the The Kingdom of Bhrain is Arabic, with English, Farsi, and Urdu also widely spoken.

Bahraini Fish Curry
Ingredients:
2 onions, chopped
1/4 c butter, oil or ghee
3 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp curry powder
1 small cinnamon stick
3 tomatoes,; peeled & chopped
3/4 c water or chicken stock
2 dried limes
4 fish fillets
Directions:
Saute the onions in the butter until softened. Add the garlic,
salt and curry powder and cook for another minute.
Blend in the cinnamon stick, tomatoes and water. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
Add the dried limes and lower the fish into the sauce. Cover the pot and poach the fish over low flame until it is tender and flaky. Serve with your favorite plain rice dish.
