Usually they don't, but she had her husband with her at the audition. I don't know how they're going to handle it.

There's going to be at least one married couple there--they're competing against each other.

We have never had a married couple in any of our series or even siblings except in Junior Masterchef were there were twin sisters, from series 2 there are a couple who are now living together and running their own restaurant.

In tonights episode the contestants are split into two teams and have to serve up morning tea to 100 people but the catch in it is they have to mill their own flour before they can start cooking and not in a modern mill where you just push a button, it is an old fashioned windmill mill and it is all hands on, looking forward greatly to watching it, just over 2 hours to go. icon_biggrin.gif

Each team had 30 minutes to mill their flour (each team split into 2) and as 1 milled the flour the rest of the team went searching for the ingredients as everything had to be made from scratch and they had to do a scone, choux pastry item, a pastry and jam (they picked their own strawberries, plumbs and apples and one group bought apricots from the grower (they had 3 hours to get their ingredients from the surrounding area and then 2 1/2 hours (in a very modern commercial kitchen) to cook up their treats and pack them ready to be transported to where they would serve them and when they arrived there they had 10 minutes to do final preperation and start serving and oh they had to make pots of tea as well. The people eating the morning tea voted for the winner - there was 77 votes and one team got 65 of them and will receive a reward of a lunch and private master class from a top chef and the loosing team go into an elimination challenge from which one will go home (that takes place tonight my time).

Lets us know what you think and how it compares to the American show. Zurie sorry for highjacking the thread but just what sort of challenges do they have in the Masterchef South Africa, it would be interesting to compare the different shows?

Turns out I can't watch the video because "player is not available in your location." Oh, well, I'll look at the rest of the site anyway. icon_biggrin.gif

icon_lol.gif Oh Pat, I don't mind anyone hijacking the thread -- it is all so fascinating!!

Our last 7 contestants just came back from Zanzibar ... Although they stayed in a paradise hotel, the prep and food they had to do was so hard. I said to DH I am just sooo happy I am not one of them!!

Zanzibar is THE original "spice island". The street food is awesome. They were 8 then, and divided into 2 teams of 4 each. For the 1st challenge they had to imitate (or make their own) Zanzibari street foods -- buying all their own ingredients -- and selling the results to locals and tourists. The team who made the most money won.

Then there was the usual cooking challenge, and 1 person was sent home ... icon_sad.gif
