I had a response this morning, I tapped it out on my phone after 4 hours sleep, and then somehow touched the back button on my phone and lost it all.
I didn't give in to the high school class's late request. I think they already have too many privileges, they got to take the Tassimo machine that our previous boss bought for staff members into their classroom. They are allowed to break many of the policies that were set up years ago, allowed to go for walks whenever they feel like it.
Today was my last baking session with the kids. This time around I didn't have to supervise, they did it all in their classroom, good thing too, my throat hurts from all the repeating myself I did all this week. I don't know how teachers do it. I woke up Wednesday morning with a sore throat and a dry cough, I originally thought I was sick, but after a drink it settled down. It was worse today I couldn't get rid of the dry feeling.
I do have 2 classes that still need to decorate cookies. They were to do them this afternoon, but................, well I will rant and rave if I go into it. Lets just say a formal complaint is in the typing for a co-worker. I am sick and tired of this person. I complained about her before as a co-worker, but now I am doing it as a parent. She is very smug about me telling her about I am doing a formal complaint against her because her dad just won the election for Band Chief. But I am not scared or going to back down. Worst they can do is fire me.She is just lucky it was my finger pointing at her not my fist in her face. I am highly employable elsewhere. They will have a hard time finding anyone else that does what I can do. Heck I have been even training the janitor for crying out loud, she came in totally blind, I have been telling she what I do know about what the previous janitor did, and answering any questions she has that I can answer.
I also talked to some of my co-workers about why I am not going to be around the first day back, the day my son has his counseling appointment. I even named his bully, as he as foster family in the school and has returned to go to school here, I have had to be nice to him. Treating him like any other child. It has been a hard couple weeks for me. My co-workers, including a foster aunty has told me to tell his foster mom. I talked to my son and he has agreed that she should know now too. So I gotta figure out how to break into that conversation. She is the one that nominated me and told everyone why they should vote for me for Employee of the Year.
Then last week I found out my older DD is being bullied too by 2 girls a couple years older than her. I only found this out after I realized she shaved her eyebrows. The first day I couldn't put my finger on why she looked different, it wasn't until the hair was stubble that I realized what she did. They were bugging her about a uni-brow, which in all reality isn't a real uni-brow.
I am so ready to quit working as a school cook, just so I could tell my kids to punch these bullies in the face. But I know in this day and age that you can't even shove someone without an assault change being laid against you. So I am going to have to emotionally toughen my kids up, so they don't go into these extremes they have been doing.

I'm convinced one of the toughest jobs in the world is being a Mom; but hang in there tasb - you are doing a great job and that's all anyone can ask. As you said, you are "HIGHLY" employable and don't need to worry about it - they would be in a lot worse shape than you if you weren't there.
Fri Dec 21, 2012 6:22 amFood.com Groupie
Jacqueline, I hope that you are nice and safe across the mountain.
tasb, I think that you are doing great both as a parent and as a staff member at the school you work at. I am surprised that the high school students get to have the Tassimo machine in their classroom. I think it should be where staff can use it, not the students.
Bonnie G, I agree on how quickly tasb would be able to find a fantastic job if the school goes against her.
I'm sorry that I wasn't here yesterday. I felt like elephants were dancing on top of my lungs. Today my body doesn't really know how to feel because we dropped 25 degrees over night.
Sat Dec 22, 2012 10:22 amFood.com Groupie
Laury, sorry to hear you arent feeling well. Hopefully your neighbors kicked up the heat some more so you can warm up. Get lots of rest, hopefully your lungs start to feel better soon.
Thank you both for the kind words. I have been at my breaking point once again. With two of my kids being bullied right now, I am getting to the point of telling them to fight. But I know that will get them into bigger trouble. I have raised my kids to be too compassionate that they are not only taking abuse but internilizing it. Gotta work on this over the holidays.
On a more positive note, I got all the baking done at work, my throat is sore from all the talking I had to do, but it was all worth it. We went through:
Gingerbread, 9 batches
Sugar Cookies, 6 batches
Candy Cane Cookies, 4 batches
Butter Icing, 14 batches, 4 jars Sugar Sprinkles
Did I happen to mention this was all done using a dinky 5 speed hand mixer.

That is wonderful!! I imagined you were using a great electric stand mixer. I am feeling a little better today but I kept falling asleep while we were watching TV. I ended up having to take a long nap.

I just finished all my cookie baking too; not as much as you tasb my friend - but a lot for me. it all turned out really nice excepte for Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies and it's not the fault of the recipe - they would have been great and looked wonderful. But I've discovered the shortening here is NOT of the same quality of our Crisco at home - more like a lard so it left a funny taste in the cookies But the others really are nice.
DH has taken DD to the beach today which gave me time to get the baking done, now just have to get ready to do the cooking for the 15 folks we've invited for dinner Christmas Day. They are the folks that are here alone for the Holidays with no family so we wanted to give them a place to go and we'll enjoy the company too.

I am back, we did not go across the mountain early but due to snow it took about 1.5 hours where as it normally takes about 30-40 minutes. Her test came out fine and we made it home safely. Now just have the gall bladder after Christmas an all will be fine.
Tomorrow we are having Christmas with Sarah and her family, If you all recall she is my best friend's daughter, but my best friend "Sally" died 3 years ago. So she and her husband and two children are coming up, Sally's husband and her son, his wife and daughter. Becky and I have adopted this family as ours.
Tasb, I am thinking about baking some cookies today. I haven't made any in several years, but the more I think about it the more I want to do so. We are going to have a couple of dips and chips, also some candy and I am fixing to run to town to get the stuff for a veggie and fruit tray.
Bonnie, Becky and I swore last year we were going to do that for Christmas but never got to it this year. I guess there is always next year. We have not decided when our nephew is coming up so don't have to worry about that, just yet.
Laury hope you are feeling better.
I am off to the grocery store, chat with you all later.

I'm glad that you all are getting into baking. It will be nice to have Christmas with your family and friends. I have no idea what we are doing for Christmas. My sister's family tends to be very spontaneous. They make absolutely no plans until the day of something. For Tom and me, it's frustrating. I never know how much energy I will need until the day of the event. Oh well.
I can understand your sister's gallbladder surergy can keep you from panning for your surgery, Jacqueline. Is this out patient surgery or will you be admitted to the hospital?
I get a new doctor on Janurary 29. It will be a new pulmologist or lung doctor. I found out that he had my day planned out from 8:30AM until 2:30PM. First I had to have one test, then a second test and finally meet him. That is not acceptable to us. Any appointment in the afternoon is difficult to start with,. I get out of bed around 3AM. By 2:30 in the afternoon, I will be very tired even if I don;t do the 2 tests that day. I changed what schedule I could and I will be having test 1 on 1 day, test 2 on a second day and then meet him on a 3rd day. He just wanted to make sure the tests are done before the consultation. They will be.
Enjoy your time with your fanilies!!

By the way, in January we will be having Feeling Fit Friends 2013. Here is where it will be located-
Since both of you know how it goes around here- tasb and Binnie G, please, help me while Jacqueline is gone for a while. There will be at least one or possibly two other hosts - Lauralie41 and Joyful Chef while she is recuperating but both Lauralie41 and I have fibromyalgia. I can push myself a little to get some work done but Lauralie41 might not be able to. Joyful Chef has volunteered to help if I run into questions.

Just got back from shopping a couple hours ago. Had a horrible night's sleep, so I am just kicked back on the couch. My sleep was so broken last night I put the turkey in the frig at 3 am. I have some baking I want to do, but will probaby cut it back to just Shortread Cookies. We have alot of candy, chocolate, cheese and crackers. Atleast at home I have my KA stand mixer. I have brought up wanting a mixer at work, but as a band school funding is to the pennies. I have thought of fundraising to buy it, but a co-worker is already fundraising for playground equipment and I dont want to take from that.

Oh, I did the "new" way of baking and calling it home made, LOL, I won't be calling it homemade though. I bought those cookies in those packages where you just break where scored and bake. I did 5 pkgs. of those, but if I had made them myself, it may have been cheaper but I just wouldn't have had the time. I also made a cheese ball and two dips. Tomorrow, will do the spinach dip, little smokies and there is one other thing I am doing but for the life of me I can't remember it.
Tasb, I'd loved to have had a KA mixer back when my parents were alive but I really can't justify the expense with just me, esp. since I don't eat many baked goods. I do have a KA hand mixer which I love. I have enough points on my credit card rewards that I could get a KA stand mixer, but really I don't think I'd use it enough.
Back to calling it homemade, it kills me the way people cook these days and call it homemade. Stuffing, yeah, stove top, not me but people call that homemade. I won't go on because I have a big soap box I stand on when I get on this kick.
Laury, hope you like your new doctor, is your old one leaving? I can understand being too tried to do it all in one day but where I have to travel so far for decent medical care I do try to get all mine in one day. Becky and I both see a doctor in Pikeville KY and we try to get our appointments on the same day, just at different times.
I know you all will be busy with the holidays and may not post again until afterwards, me, I will probably be on the next most of the day on Christmas, we aren't doing anything that day, so there won't be much else to do. So I want to take a moment and say Merry Christmas to all of you, hope your stockings are full and that Bonnie gets all the gadgets she desires.

tasb, I hope that you finally got some good sleep last night.
Jacqueline, I have no idea if we are going to be here Christmas or not. My youngest nephew, age 27, came home for the holidays so we may be getting together at some point.
Merry Christmas to all!!

Jac, it is crazy what some people consider homemade these days. I serve Stove Top, because that is what I grew up with, we never considered it homemade. I did make stuffing one year, but hubby really didn't like it so we are back to Stove Top. For a bit it did become a joke around here. My MIL was working in an old folks home and when she was serving Christmas Dinner one elderly man asked her if it was a homemade stuffing, she said no it was purchased, her DIL's secret recipe, I laughed and said an ancient family recipe, too bad we didn't patent it or we would be rick. I think your cheese ball and dips made up for the cookies being place and bake. All my cheese/dips are always purchased. I have the KA because I bake all our own bread, my shoulder was very bad years ago and I almost quit making bread because I could no longer do it. I researched and found the KA mixers could handle bread dough, so I bought the biggest mixer I could afford. If I didn't make bread then I probably would have gone with a cheaper mixer.
Laury, hope all goes well with the lung Dr. and that they understand you not being able to do both tests in one day. Hoping your get together with family gets a little pre-planned so you can work your day around it.
Bonnie, how goes the Holidays in your new place? Any plans on sun tanning on Christmas Day?
Me, well I have to make Sugar Cookies, after actually burning cookies on the kids, one tray being my oldest DD's I replaced them with Sugar Cookies with plans on DD bring them home and I wouldn't have to make Sugar Cookies at home, well she traded them almost all away, out of 23 on her tray she brought home 5.
I got more sleep last night. I have no idea what the heck my body is up to right now. I had a sore throat and dry cough for the past few days, I thought it was from all the talking I did when I was making cookies with the kids. Then I ended up stuffy, I am sure it is allergies, I tried to save money by going with store brand allergy pills. Then yesterday morning I thought for sure I was getting sick, then the afternoon my sore throat was better. Now my voice is all croaky, and my dry cough hurts my chest.

Jacqueline, we very rarely eat things which are homemade. We use all the cheats we can. Tom doesn't enjoy cooking but he does it because we have to eat. I tell him to do whatever is easy for him. Neither of us feel embarrassed about it/
We are gettomg together with my sister's family for a few hours tomorrow. We will be picked up around 11. Hopefully we will be home by 1 or 2. I don't think their are going to be any gifts except we are bringing some coffee liqueur. We occasionally have this in our coffee.
When I explained to the doctors office why I had to have the tests done on a different day than the consultation, they understood. I was able to make each test on its own day.
I understand not being able to tell if you have a cold, sinus problems or allergies. I had that problem but my doctor explained how to tell to me. I am sorry that it's a little gross but her explanation is look at the mucous. If it is clear, think allergy. If it is yellow or green think cold or sinus infection.
Merry Christmas to all!!
