I'm not having much luck with stovetop grits. One of my co-workers told me to try the crockpot, but didn't know exactly how her mom did it.

I've got a 6qt pot that doesn't suffer too badly from the excessive heat problem.

    I've never tried, found these
    Crockpot Cheesy Southern Grits
    Mexican Style Grits (Crock Pot)
    Pumpkin Cheddar Grits

I make grits in the rice cooker, that's worked so much better for me than using the stove. I use milk, but of course you could just use water. This is the recipe I posted, but there are others, Creamy Grits (Rice Cooker)

When using a recipe, try to fill the crock pot from half to 2/3 full for efficient cooking. The heating coils on most units are on the sides of the unit and underfilling will result in longer cooking times being required.

For a 6 quart crock, I'd look for recipes calling for 2 to 3 cups of grits.

The following recipe uses the crock pot for the grits and other ingredients and while it's not a pure grits recipe, it does give options like using instant grits if interested..
