I've been looking online because I would prefer heirloom varieties rather than the generic seeds I find in the big box stores. Some are very expensive because they sell packet of 500 seeds! I am only a backyard planter and just starting out as well. I found one site that was too good to be true. 600 seeds for $1.00. Now I am suspicious.

You can't go wrong with Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds (www.rareseeds.com). I have ordered from them every year since I can remember. While I can't say they would have seeds for $1.00, you will get good quality at a fair price. I believe they are located in Missouri. Their catalog is gorgeous!

Thank you! I also found Victory Seeds. They were highly rated by Daves Garden.

I'm not sure how many heirloom seeds they have, but I regularly order from Artistic Gardens - they have very small packets for 40 cents, which I find just right for things like zucchini - love the Ronde de Nice, but how many can two people use? Anyway, they are great, I love the shallots in particular

    I can recommend www.sampleseeds.com

Small packages, reasonable prices and the shipping is also reasonable.

Thanks for the recommendations. I am hoping to finish planning and actually order my seeds in the next couple of days.
