Junebug sorry to hear your friend has cancer and what wonderful supporting friends she has. I hope your friend and the rest of you girls have the time of your life on this cruise. My prayers are with her that she beats this cancer.
Mia sorry to hear about your friend also. It's hard for any person knowing they have cancer but it must be so sad for your doctor friend knowing that his kind of cancer is almost incurable. My prayers are also with him and hope that he can beat this terrible disease also.
My hope is someday they will develop a vaccine that given once a year will keep all kinds of cancer away. I know, hopeful thinking but someone has a child or will have a child who will grow up and invent this cure, I'm positive.

The cruse is not until November 5th, which is when we could all make it and my prayers are that she will stay well enough for her to go on this cruise.

Mja, I am sorry to hear of the diagnosis that your Doctor friend got, I have a friend that is a Priest (tho I am not catholic) and he was diagnosed with lukemia. And it's the sme type his Father had. But he is doing fairly well so far.

Catnip and Mia, thank you for your kind words. I will pray for Mia's friend and catnip I will also be praying for a cure!

!I remember as a child how much simpler our lives were back then and cancer was rare. I only knew of one man who had lung cancer when I was a child. And he didn't smoke.

Catnip and Junebug, thanks for your kind words.

Junebug, I pray for your friend that she will make it and have the time of her life!

I also remember having no idea about cancer as a child.

I remember going to Rome and the first time I saw the Coliseum I was awe struck. I'm not sure why other than I had seen in it movies, tv shows, and history books and it just really brought home that I was in a place with so much history and so many stories! If those walls could talk....

I remember Shrinky Dinks and those freeze dried shrimp offered in the comic books. You'd order them and put them in water and you'd grow a "whole family of mermaids in your aquarium". The cartoon pictures showed them cavorting happily in your aquarium, just add water! A real scam on trusting children. I wanted them SO badly! I DON'T remember what they were called, though. Anyone? icon_lol.gif icon_redface.gif

Yup I remember shrinky dinks and those instant mermaids. Can't remember what they were called either.
Remember the little monkeys they were selling. I always wanted one when I was a kid but my parents were wise and didn't let me have one.
I do remember buying those "well advertized" real live sea horses though. I remember they lived about a month and than died.

Yes, my parents also said no icon_sad.gif Then I went to my cousins house, her parents, sadly, did not say no, and all she got was a smelly tank from the dead "mermaids" Or maybe it was the sea monkeys!?! Not sure, now that you mention the name Catnip! icon_lol.gif Oh, dear, getting older by the minute! icon_smile.gif

I remember this in Germany, too. Always wondered what it really was!
I remember watching "Herbie" movies with my best friend and him wanting to construct a bug like that. He's become engineer icon_lol.gif

I remember when I was younger we wouldn't even leave the house before 10 pm to go out for the night, go have breakfast and be home by 4-5am. We could have danced all night.
Then 10 yrs. later we left the house at 8 pm and was home by midnight and maybe went to eat. Dancing really wore us out.
Ten yrs. later we left the house at 5 pm and was home by 8 pm or earlier. Home before the crowds came, those young people were just to much to handle.
What happened? Those young people were much more rowdy than we were. I don't ever remember being that loud, rowdy, or drunk. LOL!
Amazing how age has a way of forgetting the way it was. Maybe that's a good thing. Oh to be young again.

I remember eating out as a kid, the portions on the plates were so much smaller than they are today. You had to wait forever because everything was made freshly from scratch, no prepared stuff warmed up in the microwave.

True Mia and wasn't the food so much better!

I think those instant mermaids were smallish shrimp of some sort, or at least that's what I was told.

I remember when I loved to stay out all day and play as a child or work in my garden all day (It's too hot for me now to stay out there all day!)

O yes, the food was VERY much better.

I remember spending hours on the beach at my aunt's in Italy, sometimes just digging holes into the sand and watching the sea.

I remember the tide pools in Hawaii, where we would find all kinds of wonderful creatures. Tiny hermit crabs, miniature fish, beautiful coral, little transparent crabs, no idea the name of them, and turtles! We'd be entranced for hours. Such fun, I wish my daughter had grown up there!

Mia and pammyowl, I love hearing about your fascination with the ocean and it's creatures. I can just sit and watch the ocean all day. It's so majestic!

I remember getting magic rocks and watching them grow!

I am so glad I had the time today to read through a bit of this forum, so nice to hear about all your thoughts and memories!
I remember looking at cloud shapes, too. Such fun! I still do that.

When I was young I imagined fairies lived among us, in our gardens. I used to make fairy playgrounds and fairy houses with swimming pools out of twigs and leaves and flowers.
