EXTREME coupon session and I had a blast but tired

    Fri Jan 27, 2012 4:51 pm Groupie
    Hi again.
So let me share with you my shopping expeditions. 2 in all to a couple different stores. I figure if I was ok to drive I would go to the next town over to shop as they have several stores all close to each other. However, I was exhausted when I got home but so very excited at the same time.

    Here is what I purchased.
    Tops (grocery store)

    this included

    9- 8 packs of Pepsi 20 oz
    19 Greek yogurts
2 Fusion Shaving Gift Kits with razor, cartridges, shaving cream, steptic, body wash
2 Finish Dishwasher Detergents 20 in each

    Bill $91.75 Paid $5.77

    Transaction 2
40 POM juices 8oz. Regular price $2.29 on sale $1.00 and I had $1.00 coupon so

    $40.00 for FREE

    Transaction 3
    80 POM juices
5 lbs pkg bonesless skinless chciken breasts
    1 pkg rice
    1lb frozen beans
    1 Nestle cookie refrigerator mix
1 foil baking pan (turkey size)
1 Campbells Cream of chicken soup
    1 A&W rootbeer 2 ltr
    6 -8 packs Pepsi 20 oz

    Bill came to $257. 53
    Paid $32.77

    Transaction 1
8 travel size Fusion shave cream
    8 Travel size Aquafresh toothpaste
$16.00 for .79 after coupons (taxes)

    Transaction 2
    16 first aid kits
8 Head & Shoulders shampoo (travel size)
$24.00 Paid $1.13 after coupons (taxes)

this is what I have been working on for a few weeks and got real lucky with sales and coupons.
You will note very little meat or other foods purchased. I already did that for the month with g/f These are stock up things for my new pantry when it gets finished. The juice is for each day. Mike and I both drink 1 a day. (POMegranite juice)

DH just busted out laughing when I got home. He asked what the heck we are going to do with all the first aid kits. I told him 8 for us and my SIL Lisa shared. The other 8 are going to Angel Ministries, Pantry near where I live for Needy. I am also taking the shampoos, shave cream, and if I can get lucky tomorrow there will be more as I have rain checks for many of the same items and coupons to go with them.
Obviously we do not need all this but I love to be able to drop care packages off to those that do.
The lady that works at the gas station saves coupons for me from leftover papers, thus the abundance of coupons. Plus neighbors and family as they know I use them for good purposes. (Besides myself)

$429.28 for $30.69 and I get 30 free gallons of gas!!!!!!!!

I won't be able to do that again for a bit so large but hey a few here and there are nice.

Wow Connie, you rock! Good for you for donating alot of it too. icon_biggrin.gif

I love to watch the Couponing shows but here in Canada, coupons are so rare its ridiculous! One thing I don't like with the Extreme Coupon show is they seem to buy a lot of unhealthy stuff.

I really like the shows where they donate to the needy or send care packages to the soldiers, that's awesome.

    Happy shopping!

I agree and the stockpiles are ridiculous! When do they think they will eat all that before expiration?!! Or use all the soaps and shampoos.

I happened to get real lucky with coupons and rainchecks so it all fell together nicely. I have been practicing for a couple months to get the hang of things.

I love the Krazy Coupon Lady site becaue I can get almost anything from her site including other coupons. Plus it really teaches you how to do things.

Here is her site My printer gets more action now than it has in years. LOL

Again I did not need to buy so much for meat as I have my freezers from past purchases but when I can get lucky on it I will buy more to add in.

Fresh fruits and veggies are another thing I refuse to give up so I go to the farmers markets when they are open or go to the produce section for fresh. It costs more but in the long run is so much more healthy IMHO.
Of course that is not to say when frozen are on sale I do not get them. The doc tells me it is just as good.

Here are some sites for Canada you might look at.

I would think manufactureer coupons are good on both sides of the border though.

Thanks Connie, I saved this topic to my list of "favourites" so I can go thru those sites when I have some time on my hands.

Do you find the Farmer's Market to be expensive where you live? Even with "in season" fruit and veg, I find our Farmer's Market to be pricey which always surprises me as you would think the opposite. I still love to go though and load up on fresh produce and imagine what I can make with all these good things.

I never can quite figure out the extreme couponing thing. I have a folder for my coupons, but the stores around here don't really double coupons, and the one that does, won't double on sale items. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for the delay in replying but was gone for a bit.

I use this site for 90% of my coupon strategy.

This site tells you how and where each week you can stack coupons and use coupons to get stuff cheaper and free as well as make money on some items. This is big at the drug stores.

I read the beginner stage and then printed out the binder sections. That seems like a lot of sections but it has helped me organize for most stores as it is not done by aisles but by type. I also further seperated into groups so I can flip through to the section I want quicker or depending where I am going to only open to that section. I used baseball card holders (plastic sleeves) to hold the coupons. I purchased some from Walmart and a bunch from the Dollar Tree.

I set my DD and fiture DIL up with their binders on vacation with them and they are also having a ball. There is no doubling in Florida either but my daughter does stack coupons. Manufacturer coupon plus a store coupon. Walmart, Kmart, and Target have their own as do the dollar stores (Dollar General and Family Dollar)

I don't understand how a coupon cannot be used on a sale item! I would have to look for a different store. They receive the money from the manufacturer plus a finder fee so that makes no sense to me!

Another big moneysaver is to use coupons for the smalles or less per unit item you can that way you get the item but save more on it. I just buy more of them.
I also look for TRAVEL sizes at the big box stores. Many cpns say NO TRIAl but do not say travel so I buy what I can. When with DD in Fl. I took her to Target and bought 15 Oral B floss at no cost. (travel size), 8 full size deoderants on sale at buy 1 get 1 free and used cpns for both so 50 cents each instead of 2.99 each (enough for at least 8 months, 6 packages of bic pens 10 count for free, 10 bags of cat food for the shelter 3.00 each and coupons for 3.00 so she got those free. She then bought some feminin items on sale with a 5.oo back gift card so all in all she spent less than 10 bucks for everything. (well I did ) LOL
Both girls were thrilled to split the bounty for their homes.
My DD is a huge couponer but now she says she looks for the freebies first, then the sales stuff, then the regular stuff and has really been having some fun.
I will warn you your first few trips take a llllllooooooooooooooonnnnngggggggggg time so make time to do it especially when looking for the free stuff. Now I cut the time in half as I know where to look in the stores and how to seperate things in the cart so I can watch the check out.

Yesterday for instance I was charged 10 over than I should have been. The poor girl had to redo the checkout 3 times. It was not her it was the computer spitting back cpns due to a power surge so I check while they do. I also let the checkers know I have lots of coupons and those that come behind me so they can choose to stay or go.

Mind you this is not a weekly thing for me maybe 1 time oer month but with the binder and the KKL site (above) I check every Sunday and actually Friday and Sat as she sometimes can post sales early. If I have cpns or need the items I make a list and go.
I hope this makes some sense. I will gladly help where I can. MY DD is also sending me a new site her boss gave her that she likes even better! She has her boss involved, another supervisor, and their WIVES! LOL These 2 men are crazy she said with the coupons so they are doing switch outs of ones they need and don't need. Then some of the other correction officers came to her and asked to join in so they are all now making binders to set up a lunch group. GO FIGURE.

One thing I did learn was to shop for items I need, want, can use, and can donate if I do not use them.
I also try to make my menu planned on what I do have or can get. DH is getting used to it now and knows. He helps me collect extra Sunday papers from the gas station that would be tossed otherwise. I cannot get the whole paper just the insides and then I donate the inserts I do not use to the church recycle center and they get money by weight.
Lots of recycling going on around here.

HTH and please ask away. I am not super great but I am getting better each day.
My regular mail is cmcqb at hotmail dot com
PUT ZAAR in subject line so I don't delete

I check that more than here as I can use my phone to get on it when I am away.
    Happy sale shopping.

The one store that does double coupons will accept a coupon for a sale item but they will not double it icon_sad.gif
I have stacked coupons at Hy-Vee and Walgreens but Wal Mart doesn't. They will price match but then won't accept coupons for the price matched item. Since I live about 80 miles from Kansas City, I can't go to the stores like Krogers. Then again, cost of living around here is a lot cheaper, too.
    Mon Feb 27, 2012 4:37 pm Groupie
Walmart suprises me. My DD does the price match and the coupons. Check their coupon policy.

Check again as they just changed their policy for couponers specifically.

It does NOt say it will not add to a sale item so if they say no show them the print out of the coupon policy. I have done this in the past. Many cashiers are unaware of it as well.

I think it's just the Wal Mart here in town icon_mad.gif They're always pulling this kind of crap.

My favorite site is coupon mom, but sometimes I have problems getting their coupons to match up with what's on sale. I'll have to check out the other ones you mentioned.

Make a copy of the new coupon policy and that helps a lot. I know I have done that on a few occasions and have shown it to get my discounts. I also learned that my grocery store only counts 10 coupons per transaction towards gas points. I learned the hard way. Now I know to break up my order when I have a lot. I did however speak to the manager and he gave me my gas points as a favor probably so the order did not have to be voided and redone and I sure would have done that. For every 10 cpns used you get 10 cents off gas so it adds up quick on big shopping days.

Same thing at the drugstores where you get dollars back. I split the order and use the dollar coupons for each successive order. Krazy Coupon site breaks it down and I follow it for thing I need or know I will need soon.
Last week I stocked up on vitamins we use daily as they were BOGO and I had coupons and after 30 dollars you got 10 back to use later. I used it that day to purchase papertowels on sale and used coupons as well so my2- 12 pack of towels cost me 3 bucks..
Scott towelss on sale 7.49 pack and I had 1 dollar cpn each so 2 packs for13.00 minus 10 dollars is 3 bucks for both.
The vitamins last some time and we do use them daily, plus as summer comes close I stock the cottage so perfect timing for me.

Mind you this isnot every week maybe a one time per month shopping day. Also if I do not need stuff but get the money coupons then I save them for the following week to use up and I put them in my wallet not my cpn holder as I forget then. That way when I cash out it is right there with the green stuff. LOL

Let me know if I can help in any way and I will try. I am still learning as well and continue to improve on what I need to do using many examples from the sites mentioned.
