recipes for 3 lb loaves in bread machine

Are you sure your machine can handle? All the machines I've seen can handle up to a 2 lb loaf, if you are baking in the machine. I've not seen one that makes a 3 lb loaf.

If you are just making dough, you might be ok. You can use any recipe by increasing the amount by 2 if the recipe is for a 1 1/2 lb loaf, or by 1/2, it's for a 2 lb loaf. You need to stay by your machine the first 15 minutes or so - if it sounds like it is straining, turn it off immediately, you do not want to burn out the motor. I routinely increase the amount of flour and other ingredients when making dough only and baking in the oven, when I need to have multiple loaves. But I've miscalculated once or twice, and had to stop the machine, remove the dough, and do it in two parts.

You will need to try it out to see whether your bread machine can handle that quantity of dough.

Yes it is a 3 lb. loaf recipe I need. My Black and Decker made up to a 2 lb. loaf but the machine finally "died". I bought another Black and Decker It is the one with 2 paddles and makes up to 3 lb. loaves. No recipe was included.

I doubt that there are many recipes posted for a 3 lb loaf. Most recipes are going to be for 1 1/2 or 2 lb loaves. What I would suggest is that you look at the recipe(s) in the owners' manual for 3 lb loaves, see how much flour that uses, and then use the tool on the recipes you would like to try to change the recipe to that number of servings that get you to about the same amount of flour (anything +/- 1/2 cup should work).


(This might be as clear as mud, and if you want, you can pick a recipe you'd like to try, tell me what it is, and I'll walk you through what I would do).

I had no idea there was a machine with that large a capacity, not that I need it. I learned something new!

Hi! Guess I assumed there would be more than just 2 recipes. If I use the white sandwich recipe do you think I could use Whole Wheat flour instead of white flour? It might be heavier so maybe if I added a couple of Tbsps. of gluten flour.What do you think ? I really hate to use the amounts of ingredients called for and then mess up.You would think that since 3 lb. loaves are not as common that B&D would put out a pamphlet of recipes. They did at one time.

I would definitely add in some vital wheat gluten and you will likely need add more liquid. I would start with substituting no more than half the white flour with whole wheat.

If you find a recipe here that is for 1 1/2 lbs that you want to try, then just double it to make your 3 lb loaf.

If you don't mind my asking, how do you manage to eat these enormous loaves before they go stale? Even 2 pounds is too much for me.
