This is our previous thread for 2011. There are many good books to read if you are looking for something to catch your interest.

I started "Game of Thrones" by George R.R. Martin. I am really liking it and look forward to reading the entire series.

Tina, great books & HBO series. The first on was replayed last week. The next one to be played in April 2012. There are 5 books today with the 6th one in the future.

About the tattoo books -- I thought the first one was boring and incomprehensible ! Struggled with names of characters, streets, places til decided it didn't matter. Stopped reading til friends said #2 and 3 were much better -- so I resumed. She was right -- and is a REAL thriller, but don't skip #2 or you will miss the entire development. Watches the Swedish movie version of #3 and it was a real disappointment ! Hope the US version does a better job !

Sorry -- a very happy, healthy new year to everyone. Holidays were hectic here, but lovely to have all, including 3 month old GREAT grandson here for Christmas night !

I agree totally with the boring part so far. I also struggle with names of characters, etc. so I''m glad I'm not the only one. I will keep forging ahead, thanks to you ladies!! Happy New Year to all!

Hello again, everyone! I'm typing this on my brand new laptop computer (first one I've ever had!) Good Lord but this takes some getting used to!

Anywoo...I've read the comments here about The Millenium series (aka "the tattoo"series ) and I agree that the unfamiliar names make things a little confusing but once I got used to them, I found the whole series an enjoyable read. I've also seen all three of the movies (Swedish version) and I also enjoyed those. My friends and I will be going on Thursday to see TGWTDT, English version, on Thursday.

I've read a few books since last posting but I simply must tell you about this book...I highly recommend it! It's called The Night Circus and it's written by a first time novelist named Erin Morgenstern. It's full of magic and mystery and is definitely a 10 on the quirky scale! I feel I should e-mail James Cameron and beg him to please read the book and then adapt it for a 3-D movie! It would be awesome!

I've read a few other books...oh, here's another quirky one that I would recommend: Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs. It comes complete with actual weird photographs (I'm pretty sure he found a trunk with odd and hard to explain photos and then built a story around them!). Good read!

The other books I've read are mostly continuations in various series that I'm reading.

The best of those that comes to mind is A Clash of Kings by George R. R. Martin. As I've mentioned before, I shall be forever indebted to whichever one of you encouraged me to read this series...I LOVE it. I've got the next book in the series on hold and, come to think of it, it's taking a while to get it in even though I'm next in line to read it. I think I'll go put the next in the series on hold right now. There that's done!

The rest were less memorable so I guess they don't rate mentioning

I've also gotten fairly used to this flat keyboard since I started typing this! I guess I'll keep this laptop!

I am now starting "Watch by Robert J.Swayer" I highly recommend this author for science fiction. If I was to recommend just one of his books it would be "FlashForward".

I just finished reading Before I Go To Sleep by S. J. Watson (the author could be male or female...the information on the inside jacket is careful about not revealing the author's sex...calling him or her "Watson" or "the author"). It was a very interesting book about a woman who wakes up one morning not knowing who she is. Apparently she's had an accident that leaves her with amnesia. Whenever she goes into a deep sleep (like at bedtime) she loses her memory so that every day she wakes up and has forgotten whatever happened the day before. As with most books of this nature, you can probably guess that all is not as it appears to be. I would certainly say that this book was a page-turner although I did figure things out before they were actually revealed.

I am sorry M&Mers I meant to answer this earlier. Yes the first one was on HBO. The next series is April 2012 on HBO again. I do not know if I would wish to purchase the series, I do rent them at the video store.

I think the nice thing about watching the series is that you get to see what the characters looked like. For example Nanay (sp). The women married off to the Nomad King is a sight to be seen!
