    Meatballs in the Slow Cooker

    I tried this and it worked beautifully. Instead of precooking meatballs and then adding them to the slow cooker, I mixed them up, formed them and carefully placed them in the pot. The I browned my onions, garlic etc. mixed in any liquid ingredients and spices and poured over the top of the meatballs. Cooked on low about 7 or 8 hours. The meatballs held together perfectly because they were not disturbed and were melt in your mouth. I am all for easy. icon_lol.gif

    They sound great, and it's making me hungry, too. I have a quick question--was there a lot of grease from the meat because they weren't precooked? Coincidentally, I want to make meatballs in the slow cooker this week and that was one of my concerns about not precooking them.

    It will depend on how much fat is in your meat. I actually make meatballs in the cooker without any sauce at all, then freeze the meatballs for later use - it works remarkably well for me. Not a lot of fat, but that just might have been the turkey.

    I tried it only with turkey, but no reason why it would not work with beef - this is the recipe I posted, Turkey Meatballs With Cheese and Apple (Slow Cooker, Gluten-Free

    I just skimmed off the fat when they were done cooking. It had risen to the top so that was easy to do.

    Great way to make meatballs! I've made them twice in the past week-- once to add to a soup and today to put in a tomato sauce. So easy, so delicious and no oily mess like when I cooked them in a pan.
