Culling ideas from different online sources, ~Tasty Dish~ and I made these easy and resourceful napkin holders last week for the upcoming Thanksgiving feast:
To make approximately 6-7 Thanksgiving Turkey Napkin Rings you will need:
-empty roll of aluminum foil or *toilet paper rolls (Aluminum paper rolls are taller, skinnier and sturdier than a toilet paper roll and measure only 1" in diameter. I managed to cut out seven 3-inch pieces from one roll.)
-brown paint (or if you prefer to use brown construction paper to cover the rolls instead you can do that.)
-light brown, yellow, gold/orange, red scrap paper for the face, beak, feet, and wattle
-black beans or black eyed peas, scrap paper, googly eyes or buttons for the eyes
-Thanksgiving-themed cocktail size paper napkins for the feathers. I used napkins with an autumn leaf theme which were found in a discount bin somewhere in town after the Holidays last year or try looking at The Dollar Tree. (*Note: if using toilet paper rolls which have a large diameter, you can substitute standard/dinner size napkins.)
Paint the outside of the piece of roll brown. Let dry.
Cut out a face shape with light brown paper. Glue the wattle, beak and eyes on the face shape. Dry the face flat so the beans don't fall off while drying. Set aside. Glue the face to the turkey and glue on the feet, as shown. Dry each turkey on its side.
Next day:
Fold each cocktail napkin in an accordion pleat (about 1/2" pleats) then fold the napkin in half.
After the turkey and face have completely dried, place the folded cocktail napkin in the top with the pattern facing the front, fluff the "feathers" and arrange the napkin ring on the dining table.
If desired, you can write each person's name on the turkey and use these also for seating/place settings.
