Ontario Zaars & Friends - Falling into Fall 2011

With Fall in Ontario we get to see the leaves change and fall to the ground where we can walk through them as the crunch down. Such a great view that I would not want to miss. We also get Thanksgiving, a time for sharing a great meal with family and friends. Halloween where the kiddies can dress up in scary, funny or cute costumes and go visit all the neighbours for yummy treats. Yes Fall in Ontario is something not to be missed

I am here and its cool out . It has been raining the last 3 days and not nice at all. The leaves are starting to change a bit and the colours will be beautiful in a week or so.I am finishing any canning that I want to get done this year and doing some for a bake sale for the Mission.

I'm with you Leslie. Wore my gloves, a sweater, raincoat and boots to the Food Festival today. Brrr cold but had a nice butternut squash soup to warm the insides. Got to see Anna & Michael Olsen cooking as well. He was making a Peameal bacon roast with mustard and cheddar wrapped in a puffed pastry. This is a recipe that is in the cookbook I have of theirs. ( Brenda its the one you bought me in Niagara on the Lake) and Anna made a low fat pumpkin muffin that was quite moist. It is a recipe that will be in her new cookbook coming out soon that has recipes for many different diet restrictions.
Was glad I braved the cold to go see them.

That Peameal bacon roast sounds similar to a Beef Wellington, only made with Peameal. I'd love to try that, yummo!

I went out on Sunday and wore my winter coat and gloves It was cold and raining and all the time I was out everyone I saw had winter coats on .
I am making crafts to raise money for the mission as we are having a craft and bake fair in Nov. I need a few supplies and there is nothing in this area. I hit Walmart, Zellers, every Dollar store in the area and I couldnt find even white felt or poms. What a waste of a day.

Its "Anna & Michael Olsen Cook at home" Its a great book with pictures and great little stores. One of those cookbooks that you could sit down and read from front to back.

Good morning, this cool morning in the wild and wooly west! I love this time of year, but we're farther south than you guys and leaves won't start changing for another couple of weeks. But it's fast getting cooler and cooler, and soon it'll be cold. I love living on the desert surrounded by the foot of the Rocky Mountains. The weather is funny in that the days can be warm, but nights on the desert are bitter cold.

I'm buying new gas logs for the fireplace, and I love having that going for "ambiance". It just makes the house feel so cozy and welcoming, and I somehow feel invigorated to have the fire going and cooking a soup or stew in my little kitchen.

You folks will have your Thanksgiving, soon. I'm always looking for new and delicious recipes to try, and I find myself wanting to do this during the holiday season more than at any other time of year.

I love trying new recipes at Thanksgiving too.
This is a Zaar discovery for me, and our Thanksgiving crowd requests it every year now.
