    Dr. Oetker is to Germany what Betty Crocker is to the USA! LOL.I think Dr. Oetker Products must go back 100 years. I am always surprised how many of those products are available here. Especially at World Market/Cost Plus. I LOVE that place, particularly at Christmas. Almost like shopping back in Germany.
    Not just the Sweets, Marzipan, Lekuchen and Stollen, but the pickles, sauerkrsut and red cabbage by Gundelsheim.
    I will be doing 2 seminars at the university here, through a program for learning in retirement.
    I will share my memories of Weihnachten/Christmas in Berlin and the second seminar will be a German winter dinner of Suess-saurer Rinderbraten (Sauer Braten)
    Red Cabbage, Sauerkraut and Potato Dumplings. Iam going to use Panni though. icon_smile.gif wave.gif

    Yum. That sounds very good. I'll fly down and join you for dinner. I'd bring my own fork but I don't think they'll allow it on the plane.

    We always have rotkohl (red cabbage) at Christmas and Thanksgiving. I guess the turkey is more a N.American tradition that my family adopted.
    One of my all time favourite German meals is Gruenkohl with Kassler.

    What i wouldn't give for REAL Kassler and Gruenkohl with little pans roasted potatoes. Even when we lived in Milwaukee, we could never get Kassler! Smoked pork chops are just not the same and even the German Butcher never had it.Gruenkohl was never picked and sold until it had been hit by a heavy frost. My mother said it did not taste the same before that happened.She also made a wonderfull "Suelz-Kotlett" and Bratkartoffeln. Now I'm on a roll. I also miss Brat Herring, which she made from scratch and not out of a can. icon_biggrin.gif wave.gif
