Okee since we're last on the list and no one's under us, do I go to the top of the list to choose?

The last team should host the first team on the list. Everyone else hosts the team directly under theirs.

(Zurie is the hostess. For this event she is very wealthy!! She has invited the girls of WITCHIN KITCHEN to a girls-only fondue party. She has a gorgeous apartment in one of Zürich's vorstädtische Gegends (surburban areas), with a lovely view over lake Zürich.)

I even have my own cook, to help prepare for this party. As we all know, fondue is rich -- so a large menu is not necessary. I also warned the WITCHIN KITCHEN ladies to come hungry! It's a lovely Saturday evening in October, and the weather is only now turning chilly at night, so my wood-burning fireplace throws out a warm glow. (This is apart, of course, from the central heating system!)

The cook and I check our menu. Everything is ready. We had decided on just one starter: Swiss Seafood Canapes by Coasty. Our main attraction is Swiss Gruyere Fondue (lazyme). Although the cook had bought fresh Continental breads (cut up for the cheese fondue), he also made Chelle's Zucchini Bread by Mommy Diva, because it sounded delicious.

For dessert, we will enjoy Godiva Chocolate Fondue by UmmBinat. The two fondue recipes were doubled or tripled, and divided among fondue pots ... my cook always makes sure there is enough of everything!

Just for the last little empty gap after all that, there is Apfelkchlein (Deep Fried Apple Cookies) by Northwest Gal. And don't forget, the drinks trolley has been set out!

Midwest Maven arrives first with, would you believe, a little doggie in her handbag! Oh dear, of all my pet hates it's doggies who look like toys! "I am imitating Paris Hilton", M M announced haughtily, ignoring my sniggers, and positioned her handbag near the roaring fire. When I tried to pat the spoiled little thing, he yapped and nipped my hand ...

California Jan, instead of taking a sensible taxi, arrived on her mountain bike! Ah, our fitness fanatic! I asked her how she intended getting home afterwards, after a few glasses of wine, and she shrugged her shoulders. "I can always get a taxi, but I'd prefer to cycle off a few calories," she said.

Annacia came with Awalde in a taxi. Awalde lives in Basel, and immediately we started arguing about the pronunciation of that city: was it "Bahl" or "Bahsl"? Before we reached a conclusion, Baby Kato, Dr. Jenny and Chocolatl turned up. Baby Kato pointed to the drinks trolley, (I had a drinks waiter on standby), and, once she put her glass on a side table, fished a stack of baby photos from her handbag ... Oh dear ... She's a gran! We persuaded her to put them away until later!

Last to come were Kellychris, Marcasite Queen and Parsley.

The cheese fondue was in two pots, and the bread also set out so that we could all eat comfortable around the pots at a long table. And the girls really did have the starter, too!

Have you ever heard the noise level at a women-only party? We all talk at once, and yet we hear what everyone else is saying -- something men cannot do at all! Parsley told funny stories about her 4 sons, and we were glad that she'd already had a week's holiday in Switzerland. Being a mom of four is no easy job!

Dr Jenny insisted on giving us a synopsis of the latest biography she's reading ... we didn't listen very well! She also told about having been up to the Jungfraujoch the day before in the little train you catch in Interlaken.

Everyone spoke about the incredible beauty of Switzerland. "Remember the animation TV series, 'Heidi'?" asked Parsley. "When I watched it with my eldest -- years ago -- I thought the drawings were exaggerrated. Now I see that is really what Switzerland is like!"

Annacia said she'd on various occasions gone up to the planters beneath the windows of houses. They're always full of pelargoniums blooming, and she was sure they're fake! "They are real! And they're everywhere! The wooden houses look like something out of fairy tales!"

The girls actually found space in their tummies for the decadent desserts ... The chocolate fondue was served with cut-up fruits (mostly imported).

Ohhhh ... and as the Kirsch liqueur came out as a nightcap, guess what! Chocolatl whispered, blushing, that she'd recently acquired a toy boy ... and handed round the photograph of an incredibly handsome guy!

On that note I thought it best to call for taxis ... It seems a good time was had by all!

The Food Commandos got together for a wonderful trip to Switzerland and asked me to their baggage handler! Yes, I know that's my day job but do I really want to do it on vacation? Still I agreed being the good sport that I am....

Off they went to the fabulous Rhine Falls, the largest waterfall in Europe.

We took a boat ride almost up to the falls themselves.

We headed back to the chalet for a great dinner, hosted by yours truly although after lugging up their luggage I was ready for some down time.

Alligirl was our bartender, something she confessed to have done professionally in earlier times. I really needed that drink! Since momaphet loves chocolate she was put in charge of dessert and served Sharon123's (a NC girl also! just like me!) special Spiced Chocolate Fondue.
cadillacgirl started reminiscing about cabbage rolls and strudel she learned to make from her grandmother while deantini, who is Danish compared notes with Maite G., from Belguim. Charlotte J. helped alligirl with the drinks, sharing some of her special recipes, while K9owned passed around the dog photos. Our designated driver, UmmBinat made sure the meal was gluten free as she sipped a cup of tea.

For dinner we had:

Spinach & Roquefort Salad
Classic Cheese Fondue
Spiced Chocolate Fondue

Back to the airport where, again, I toted up the luggage...sure hope it makes it home...hehe

The Saucy Silverados will be hosting the Mischief Makers and taking a trip to Interlaken, Switzerland. Interlaken is between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, and is presided over by three mountains: Eiger, Monch, and Jungfrau. We arrived by BOB Railways (we all thought it meant Bring Own Bottles!):

NorthwestGal and KimmieCat decided to spend some mommy and me time and go to Piz Glora, a revolving restaurant, and have a nice lunch.

Susie D, petlover and sofie-a-toast all decided to go Canyoning, and had a blast!

Rita~ wondered if there were any celebrity chefs hanging around, and was delighted to meet Ivo Adam!

Andi of Longmeadow Farm had to go in search of her favorites....COWS!

Abi Fae is a history buff, and really enjoyed visiting the Jungfrau Tourism Museum. B&J'sGranny tagged along.

Just_Ducky!!, Nyteglori, djmastermum and Wendelina all have kids, and wanted to go to kid friendly destinations. So they visited Harder Kulm and visited the Alpine wild animal park, Heimwehfluh to take the all-weather tobaggan run, and also visited the Suspension Rope Park.

under12parsecs had quite the adventure and went skydiving.

That evening we all went back to the chalet we rented, and had a wonderful meal. We enjoyed:

Spinach & Roquefort Salad 169739
Swiss Fondue With 4 Cheeses - an Authentic Recipe 260952
Veal Medallions With French Morels 143442
Cheese Rosti 457786
Low-Fat Roasted Veges 278844
and for dessert,
Mint Chocolate Fondue 428177
Gorgonzola Cheese and Pear Tart 449655

The Silverados and the Mischief Makers ate well and had lots of fun!
Thanks Silverados! We had a blast. Especially myself with Ivo Adam Now if only I was single and 20 some years younger. But he did raprecipes while we skate boarded. Then we enjoyed his tempting delites of sauerkraut risotto with calf’s tongue, champagne and capers! Adam and I have a wonderful time too!

Us Witchin Kitchen gals were touring Switzerland when we ran into the Golden Gourmets and got to talking. We all decided that since we were in Switzerland we couldn't pass up visiting the town of Zermatt. LifeIsGood, who just loves to stay active, was so excited to ski in the Swiss Alps and see the Matterhorn. After arriving, mary winecoff was complaining of being so cold she was glad to get inside our hotel, the Phoenix, and warm up.

Marlitt and tomsawyer both being used to cold weather at home decided to set off straight for the skiing and wandered off to find some action!
Meanwhile, Papa D was all geared up to go climb the Matterhorn single handed.

After some persuading from CJAY though, he decided it would be silly to go climbing on an empty stomach. So everyone met back at our hotel where we had a Swiss fondue feast!
Queenofcamping piped up and said Beer Cheese Fondue in Sourdough Round (Rarebit in a Hole) sounded just delicious, so we ordered that first.

And we just had to oder Kseschnittchen (Cheese Appetizers) for ChelseaW who was craving some grown up crackers and cheese.

Nif who normally likes to eat healthy, said what the heck and ordered Chocolate Fondue With Fruit and Grilled Pound Cake

And strawberrybird was just happy to kick back with us Witchin Kitchen gals and drink a few dozen or so Swiss Alps Cocktail

while being entertained by my crew's personal attentive staff icon_biggrin.gif

We even found someone to entertain Papa D lol

We made sure the Golden Gourmets enjoyed their time in Switzerland!

Count Dracula and His Hot Bites visited the small town of Ropraz in the Swiss canton Vaud – the place of a scary murder that took place in February of 1903. The corpse of a young woman had gotten horribly ripped and raped by an unknown criminal who was then called the „vampire of Ropraz“. The Swiss author Jacques Chessex made a novel of this creepy story, and of course we had to pay a visit to the famous grave yard.

On the way back to Zurich we met the mysterious group of the Shady Ladies. I was so fascinated by them that I decided to prolong my stay in Switzerland and accompany them to Montreux, also in the canton Vaud, where they planned to relax a little on the side of the beautiful Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps with a scrumptious fondue evening.

We enjoy a walk along the esplanade, admiring the colourful flower beds and listening to the soft murmur of the lake and the screams of the seagulls.

At about six p.m. we hit our hotel, where we are allowed to prepare Fondue as our typical Swiss comfort food treat. To have a kosher alternative for Studentchef, we also choose Vegetable Fondue - Vegan.
While preparing the fondues, Elle Firebrand takes care of drinks – Toblerone Cocktail, what else for Swiss comfort food!

Our hotel, Pension Wilhelm, is a pretty, old fashioned building with a lovely backyard where we make ourselves comfortable with the fondues.

„Oh my,“ says evelyn/athens at the sight of the rich fondue pots and plates, „I think I'd better call my psychiatrist!“
„He doesn't answer the phone anyway when you call,“ Lavender Lynn points out, checking the canned and preserved compotes, sauces and pickles that come along with the fondues.
„Maybe ask LoriInIndiana for advice,“ Queen Dana jokes, stroking the three cats that have appeared and remind her of home.
„I'm on vacation. Just eat!“ LoriInIndiana tells evelyn/athens and goes back to her conversation with Zurie who tells amazing stories about the wildlife in South Africa that keeps threatening her crops.
„I'd so love to do a road trip through this part of Switzerland,“ Chef1MOM~Connie remarks longingly.
„Wonder if it's allowed to hunt here,“ Chef PotPie thinks loudly. „Hubby would like that.“
„He should bring some spices along, then.“ Nasseh examins the sauces. „They could use a tad more zing, if you know what I mean!“
We eat and chatter and don't realise that the sun has gone and grey and black clouds have darkened the sky.
Then, all of a sudden, a thunder makes us jump. Lavender Lynn and Queen Dana knock over the fragile garden table. The moment the cheese sauce hits Zurie's and Nasseh's clothes, rain starts pouring down on us like a curtain.
The hotel manager cries from the back door to leave everything where it is and hurry in.
Studentchef slips on the wet cobblestones of the backyard and crashes into LoriInIndiana. They both hit the muddy ground, while the others stumble over them, Zurie and Nasseh spraying everything with cheese and vegetable sauce.
Finally we are inside and the manager closes the door, shoving us into the kitchen, where a grinning chef starts cleaning us up.
Twenty minutes later we sit in the restaurant, watching the thunderstorm outside that makes the lake look spectacular.

„We shouldn't have taken you with us,“ Bakin Baby tells me jokingly while she fumbles with her camera to get some photos of the lightenings. „All that creepy Dracula stuff must be catching!“
We laugh and start going at Mocha Caramel Fondue, a nice sweet ending of a beautiful day in French Switzerland that I loved spending with the gorgeous Shady Ladies!

The Saucy Silverados decided on a last minute trip to Gstaad, after breezermom won the lottery!
She asked me to accompany them, as their 'personal bartender'. What's a gal to do? I packed my bags, as I heard that they had rented the Penthouse Suite at the 5 star luxury Gstaad Palace! Such opulence!

diner524 and breezermom agreed that the views were stunning, but there was nothing like the beach! Charmie777 and Jamilah's Kitchen, who were both from California, (tho JK now lives in NY) agreed with the sentiment! morgainegeiser marveled at the lovely view, seen through her artistic eyes, and planned to use these peaks in a future lesson.

GSTAAD SWITZERLAND 2007 Pictures, Images and Photos

While Bonnie G #2 and Jamilah's Kitchen were talking 'medicine', Maryland Jim was staking his claim to his room, and declaring that he wasn't cooking a THING, as he deserved a little break, after cooking for his family for 30 years. icon_eek.gif

(Here's the room he chose..)

Everyone was looking for Random Rachel and starrynews, who had wandered up to the rooftop hot tub, for a soak.
While there, taking a soak, they discussed their love of anything crafty, as they are both crafty ladies! icon_wink.gif

While Maryland Jim and diner524 debated the merits and differences between the NFL and college football, Charmie777 got her plugs in for Baseball, too! Bonnie G #2, being the world traveler that she is, settled right in for a soak in the tub, also with a lovely, scenic view.

While everyone else was relaxing, in keep with the foods of the region, I started to whip up a fondue, in the Penthouse kitchenette. morgainegeiser joined me, as she said she is used to working in close quarters, as her last 2 kitchens have been quite small. I chose Swiss Gruyere Fondue #455035, as it seemed very traditional. It was FAB!

And everyone had a little dip or dunk! icon_lol.gif

When everyone retired to the 'salon', I brought out the 'Pièce de résistance', a dessert fondue - Godiva Chocolate Fondue #423713, which was heartily enjoyed by everyone!

And, as they had asked me along to bartend, I served this lovely up!
Saint Moritz Cocktail Switzerland #457685

Our impromptu trip to Gstaad had been a huge success; and I'm happy I was chosen to accompany this group of folks on the trip of a lifetime!

(Now, breezer, when you really win the lottery, this could be played out, for real! icon_lol.gif I have the plans altogether now! icon_wink.gif )
