Hi my boyfriend's mom gave him this recipe for sweedish meatballs and it is really baffling me because of the sauce part. He just uses tomato puree and 1 tsp brown sugar. This is not what i call sauce or gravy for sweedish meatballs. i love her to death and dare not question her. I did make it just as she wrote down once for the family and my boyfirend swore i didnt make it like she does. It didnt have curry in the sauce and felt it should have. there is curry in the meatballs but it didnot call b=for it in the "sauce". Anyone that has heard of a tomato-bases gravy /sauce for sweedish meatballs please let me know asap. i hate to tell my boyfriend that his mother's recipe is not really sweedish meatball recipe but the more recipes i look at the more I am conviced it isnt. LOL Thanks nurseangelmb

I have to agree that does not sound like any Swedish meatballs I've ever heard of, but I hope that someone with superior knowledge takes a look and gives you a definitive answer.

Hmm, I have to agree with you - the quintessential and traditional Swedish meatballs do come with brown gravy, not tomato sauce. I think part of the problem is that "Swedish meatballs" is such a known and oft-repeated concept that it may simply be attached to any meatball recipe, Swedish or not! icon_wink.gif

    Welcome to the forums!

Made it in early 2008 when I first bought teh food grinder attachment for my Kitchen Aid mixer. Followed the meatball and sauce that is in the instruction booklet for the grinder. Homemade egg noodles, too.

Thought I had typed up the recipe, but I can't find it.

I posted this originally on a car forum, which brought on several "I need to go to the cafe at Ikea now" comments. icon_biggrin.gif
