Who Do You Think Is the Most Famous Person Using Food.com?

I always read that big pop stars and actors love to cook at home.

Who do you think is the most famous person to use this site -- OR is currently an active member of Food.com?

The problem is this: too many pseudonyms and chefs' numbers ... Not enough real names!!

That includes you, friend!! How about rather "Jeff the Chef"??? Sounds great to me!!

The other thing is this: anyone can use the site and nab a few recipes, without having to register. Not registering means they stay anonymous.

In fact, your question probes a deeper mystery (call it a problem, because it annoys me a little): all magazine food pages run out of ideas or become stale.
(I know, I've been there, done that, years ago).

So I see recipes published which I can almost swear come from this site -- with maybe a tiny alteration.

I really think (this might sound nasty) that magazine food editors pop in anonymously, and get a few new ideas from our 450,000+ recipes ...

I have oodles of recipe books, but some nights when having to cook dinner, I mostly run to this site, put in whatever it is -- lamb chops, shrimps, bell peppers -- and hope I get at least an idea, even if I cannot use the recipe as it stands.

BUT back to your original question -- a chef can pick up plenty of ideas here, and adapt it ...

There are thousands of undiscovered, unreviewed jewels on here. I have found some: when I have time, I would put in (as an example) "green beans" or "asparagus" and simply scroll through what comes up -- usually 100's or 1000's. In this way I have found great recipes which have slipped under the radar.

I've sometimes thought that too especially with a few Australian Chefs just quirky things that have come up one in particular I remember is in one of my recipes I stress about cleaning out the pot after you have browned the meat, because often the flour burns and you don't want that in the final dish, we about 6 months later Huey (Iian Hewitson) was doing a similar recipe to mine and stressed about cleaning out the pot after browning off the meat, well it was hubby who picked up on the comment and well we wondered! Just can't prove anything though.

Pat, I've also seen a few remarks or recipes in magazines which made me think ... I've seen that somewhere on Food.com!!

I'm pretty sure food editors hunt around for ideas. Maybe they do tweak recipes -- I've seldom used a recipe exactly as it stands. Countries and ingredients differ too much.

The big problem is, with so many recipes (and anonymous members) we'll never quite know the truth about the famous people who lurk around this site!

Thinking about it do we really know the truth about anyone on the site other than what they post unless of course other members have maybe met them and can attest to the truthfullness of their posts and of course we have many members who post nothing and maybe they only look for recipes to cook and leave it at that!

According to Wikipedia, THE Leonard Cohen lives in L.A. but still keeps a house in Montreal. Cohen is a fairly common surname so I'm sure there is more than one Leonard Cohen in the world.

We did have a fellow by the name of The Colonel...of Kentucky F.Chicken...he's a hoax...magic Spice is the other name. LOL. Of the colonel

I think there WAS a real Col. Sanders ... wasn't there?? I suppose I could read it up through Google, but I have just dropped in here so don't have the info!

We have found that the KFC outlets are also only as good as their chief cooks. Some are just awful, others are great. I suppose with franchises like these you just never know the quality unless you taste it.

Oh -- about the real topic.

I am in South Africa. We have a Westernised country, and some amazing restaurants, some on the list of top restaurants in the world.

We also have great food and wine magazines. And I've seen recipes ... can't swear on this ... but seemed to me soooo based on recipes from this site!!

However -- the Internet has billions of recipes floating around, and no real cook would use any "stolen" recipe without tweaking it -- so I suppose we'll never know who uses this site as inspiration!

He did.
But before he died, he visited the KFC outlet in my home town and just TRASHED the food there. He called the potatoes "wallpaper paste," and "sluldge," and told them the oil for the chicken wasn't hot enough. It was funny!
