super wave oven

I just happened to see the infomercial and thought "I want one of these!"

I did some searching at found it much cheaper and Bed Bath & Beyond ($79.99, as opposed to $120): http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/product.asp?SKU=17352067

Today was the first time I used it, and I used it 3 times!

It's a bit different cooking method - Halogen (browns), infra-red (cooks from inside-out) and convection (major airflow for even cooking).

I also got the accessory kit, which I found at shopnbc.com (http://bit.ly/kb1jXI) for $23.00. If nothing else, it's worth it for the [hot] lid holder and baking dish & broiler dish.

I, too, am looking for a recipe book and/or forum.

Hi all;
First post -- I stumbled upon this thread, and delighted to see it!
I'll first note that some of the references given here apply to the NuWave oven, not the SuperWave....and they're NOT the same product!
AFA the basics & recommendations, I'll simply say, think PLASTIC vs TEMPERED GLASS quality.

I bought my SuperWave late last year, and LOVE it!! So much so, I do the vast majority - 90%? - of my evening-meal (& other) cooking in it. About the only thing I DON'T use it for is soup! *LOL*

I'll be first to say, the recipe 'pamplet' that came with the SuperWave is a bit disappointing. Only a few recipes, and they are for more 'esoteric' dishes rather than the everyday things we usually prepare. I soon noticed MANY requests for recipes and advice on the seller's website (SNBC in this case), and as most went unanswered or, at best, referred to 'another' of their products, I decided to take the bull by the horns (hoping it didn't turn into a tiger-by-the-tail) *LOL*

To help with the situation, I decided to start up a SuperWave Users Group for sharing recipe ideas, advice, etc....and I sure hope the Admin here won't mind my posting a link to same. You can find us at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/superwaveusers/ -- membership is open so a quick sign-up is all you'll need at present.
We're small, still kind've new, and would really love to have more folks interested in the SuperWave & sharing of info to help us grow into a thriving community!

And in closing, I'll note that most of the questions (etc) asked in this thread have been covered in one way or another in the few posts we have thus far -- plus, I've just made a new entry that responds to a query recently made! Please join - hope to see you there!

Was this a recipe from the oven's manual or posted here?
I don't have either of the infrared ovens, so I'm afraid I'm no help when it comes to them, but if you found a good recipe it would be great to be able to refer others to it too.

I am also COMPLETELY FRUSTRATED with the LACK of A BIG cook boo{for the Super WAVE},with recipes that the average family eats;AND CAN AFFORD to prepare . There IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS The company did have Bowercox do a cook book It does have good stuff BUT NOT ENOUGH COMMAND A N D AFFORDABLE recipes. We N E E D to agree we will ALL call THE COMPANY 3 times a weeks UNTIL they DO PRODUCE A

I just received my Super Wave oven and am anxious to try lots of things. However, I feel kind of stupid that there is one thing right away I can not figure out. On several things the instruction manual talks about arranging the racks in a crisscross pattern with the little rack on top.

Is this supposed to be with the food on top of the little rack or between the racks? If it is supposed to be on top, it doesn't make sense to me because the small rack does not sit nicely on the other without two of the "legs" falling through and having the rack sit on an angle. If the food is supposed to be between the racks it doesn't make sense because I don't understand the purpose of the upper rack (especially if the upper rack either does not touch the food or the food is too thick to allow the upper rack to sit evenly on the lower.

I don't see any other posts on this topic. Am I really the only one too stupid to figure this out?

First off, I've learned long ago (another time and place in my life) that for every one person who has a question, there are 3 or more that are just too afraid to ask it. So, thank you for being brave enough to ask!

Secondly, even though I don't have the Superwave, I have a convection oven/microwave in our camping trailer and I remember when I first got it I was totally confused about the rack system. Maybe my experience will work for you too?

Here's what my problem was:
Way back in my toddler years I learned to stack blocks with the largest block on the bottom and the smallest blocks on top.
So, the first time I looked at the mess of racks for my RV Conv/Micro oven I immediately tried to stack them with the little rack on top. Of course, the little rack promptly fell through the holes in the large rack and ended up all topsy-turvy in the microwave. (Thank goodness I didn't have food on it yet! )

So, then I played around and around with it until I was nearly too frustrated to cook. I just started using one rack at a time, until I had to bake cookies.

Okay.... let's just say that my idea of "camping" food is nothing like our friends' ideas or the traditional recipes. I act like we're eating exactly like we do at home, but with more free time to cook!

So anyway, now I want to use both racks to bake more than 3 cookies at once. By this time though, I had used both racks alone at least a few times, and as I realized I needed both at the same time, it dawned on me that the smaller rack sits nice and close to the bottom of the oven, but that tall rack always seems so high in the air!

My childhood OCD about having my building blocks all stack up in descending order started to kick in, but I squashed it and set the small rack in the oven on the floor and then set the large rack in over the top of it. I did rotate them so that the legs and the wires were all going in the opposite directions (maybe considered "criss-crossed"?) and then I was able to bake two trays of cookies at the same time!

Like I said above, I don't know if this is what the Superwave looks like, or if you're going to read this and think I'm about the wackiest person you've ever heard, but it is definitely the instance that pops into mind when I read your post. I do hope it helps you, though!

ETA: Okay.... so after all that, I re-read your post and see that your instructions actually say to put the little rack on top!
You have my express permission to relieve your anxiety over this situation, by laughing at how dumb I am!

Thanks for the reply, Tink. But "small" rack and "large" rack refer to the height of the racks. When turned so the two grills form a grid, the lower rack can sit atop the taller one, but the slightest movement (like when placing food on the top) causes the "legs" of the upper rack on one side to slip between the ones on the bottom.

Hi there. I also just recieved my new oven and also found the same problem with the racks. They definitly do not match up as the picture shows. I wanted to just try french fries to see how they would do. To remedy this situation I simply turned the small rack upside down & sat it on top of the large/tall one. It seems to me that that configuration is simply to keep small or slender foods from dropping through.
Hope this helps out at least some. Seems to work for me so far.

The height part I understood because of my oven, but it was the part about being instructed to put the little rack on top that I didn't read properly until I'd already babbled on and on! LOL

I hope another chef who owns this gadget can shed some light for you.

@tlditufk61 - I think I'll try it the way you said because it is the only way it seems to make sense.

I thought the same thing you did about the purpose of crisscrossing the racks was to prevent smaller food from falling through, but the cooking guide in the instruction manual says to also do this when cooking chicken breast.

I also just ordered an actual cookbook for the SuperWave Oven. Hopefully there will be something explained better in there.
