    Looking to move...

So my boyfriend and I are looking for a new place to live. We moved to Naples, FL from Boulder, CO a year ago and I am just not adjusting to the change. He grew up here so he loves it, but I want to be somewhere with seasons, more trees and greenery and a little more culture and things to do (and some younger people)! His argument is that he doesn’t want to be freezing all year and wants to live near the beach. It makes for a difficult compromise because just about everywhere north of us gets colder throughout the year. I think that he could deal with that if we were living somewhere that had other things going for it.

Can anyone suggest places they think are great to live, and potentially to raise a family at in the future, that is:
    1) Near the beach or a large lake
    2) Is in the eastern time zone (both of our families live in EST and it makes it too difficult if not impossible to visit them for the weekends when there are no direct flights and a time change – we did that in CO!)
    3) Has a homey feel where people get to know their neighbors
    4) Is within an hour of a large city (if it is not a large city itself)
    5) Has good job potential and is growing (my BF does commercial real estate)
    6) Gets sunshine all year, even in the winter, so that when it is cold it doesn’t feel too gloomy

I would appreciate any feedback that you may have. I figured who better to ask than my group of global friends on Recipezaar!...I mean food.com :/

I live right on the East Coast of NC icon_smile.gif in Cape Carteret which is maybe 10 mins from the ocean. Emerald isle is right on the ocean as well as other places close by. Jacksonville is not a huge city but is 30-40 min away and Greenville is a city 1 1/2 hrs from me as well as Wilmington which is AWESOME icon_smile.gif

We're actually moving from Pa to SE North Carolina in late November. Laurinburg, NC. It seems very nice. We've been there 3 times to look at houses, etc.

    Cool!

Yes, we looked around Greenville for houses/job, too. It was actually our 1st choice, but husband found a better job op in Laurinburg.

Thanks for all of the replies, sorry I didn't stop back by sooner I only now got a topic response notification...all of these site changes are doing screwy things!!

Hi Parsley wave.gif Where in PA are you from? I'm from north of Pitt originally. I am sure you will love North Carolina.

Believe it or not I think we settled on New York City! HAHA

I know it doesn't really meet many of the requirements I posted but we are both excited about it. We figured if we don't like it we can always move again. I am going to have to change my 'Zaar name to Nomad Kelly!! We probably won't move until we have some job prospects though so it will be a few months...after the New Year maybe even. As long as I have hope of getting out of FL!

We in a suburb of Allentown, Pa. We're actually only 45 minutes from NYC.

I'm quite sure that we'll love NC. I'm excited.
