    Well, I wish I had a camera to take a photo of this! I tried to make pumpkin bread in the crockpot. I think I stirred the dough too much. After 2 hours it didn't rise at all, just kinda sat there in a lump.

    Well, that got me to thinking that I'd like to know about some other people's messes, and see photos too. Where would such a thread belong?

    I'll definitely have to get a camera! It was one of the ugliest things I ever saw! Kind of an orangy-brown semi-molten blob with raisins in it. icon_eek.gif

    I'm thinking that if we just put it here in the crockpot section that it might only include crockpot recipes that went wrong,, but that is not the case. I've baked cakes that went horribly wrong, petrified potatoes in the microwave, boiled away potatoes on the stove until they were so cooked on that I had to use special techniques over a period of 2 weeks to restore the pyrex pot. So where would a thread about our mistakes go besides here in the crockpot section?

    okay, thanks! and meanwhile.. I'll bet you have some stories you can tell about a mess or two that you didn't take a photo of before you had to throw it out, eh? Come on, fess up!

    What? Me make mistakes? Absolutely.
    I've been learning to make breads since last August. Several of my sourdoughs have "liquified" during the final rise in the loaf pans. They spill over the edge as I try to scoop the gloop back up on top. Not pretty.

    LOL I was wondering why the baking section has soooo many sticky threads on sourdough, since I don't eat it myself. That must be why. Wish I could see a pic of that!

    You should have seen all that sticky stuff on my new stovetop grill pan when I was having that problem!!! yechhh! More of the meat was stuck to the pan than was still intact!

    I am never going to forget my first big mistake, which was also my first attempt to really make anything significant at all.
    I was about 12 and it was a family member's birthday and I was going to make a nice cake, from scratch. I mixed it and put it in the oven, and then took it out and.... it fell into pieces. My mom and I debated on what to do, and decided on gluing it together with frosting. When we finished it was one very odd looking cake! haha but it tasted good and that person appreciated it and my efforts.

    I can even give you a photo, happened in March '09 Down Under Thunder Chocolate Brownies 343535 (I used self raising flour instead of plain - well at least my oven got a good clean out after this)



    How it eventually came out after another bake



    Then in November '07 I made The Only Chocolate Cake Recipe You'll Ever Need! (Devil's Food) 26370 which ended up as a trifle, the cake totally fell apart but it was the best trifle I ever made, sorry no photo this was before camera days.

    That first pic is hilarious. I hope the cleaning wasn't too hard to do! the second pic looks scrumptious!
    The third,, yah, call it a 'trifle',, still tastes delicious, just not quite what we started out to do, eh? icon_lol.gif

    Actually the DH had to clean it up as my back was playing up something chronic (I had to even get him to put anything in the oven for me and take it out at the time) I'm sure he was having icon_twisted.gif thoughts at the time, well he was certainly cursing. icon_lol.gif at it now.

    That can sometimes be the advantage of cake, disguise it as something else or a good thick layer of icing or cream and voila it what was meant.

    There has been the odd occassion when I have done apple pie filling and overcooked so now we have apple sauce.

    One of the things that has given me the most problems is potatoes! They just seem to cook so much faster than I expect! But then, too, the computer comes with a time warp, as being on it seems to do something to time. Once I was going to just make some boiled potatoes, and probably mash them or put parsley on the cubes. I was at the computer when I smelled something burning. I went in and the potatoes were blackened onto the pyrex pot that I had them in. Really bad! I could not get that blackened layer off no matter what I did! I even asked it as a question on one of the Q & A sites! Well, eventually, I used vinegar to soak it, and then baking soda and boiling that,, and little by little it came off,, but not like shiny new. I have to definitely use a timer and keep careful watch over potatoes.

    What a fun thread! I make a tuna casserole that's delicious, but lacks color, so I always dust it with paprika before baking.
    The last time I made it, I was distracted... and when I took my first bite, it nearly blew my head off icon_twisted.gif
    Turns out I had dusted the casserole libarally with... cayenne pepper. icon_redface.gif
    Thank goodness, nobody else was eating it but me.
