I opened this thread, quite sure that I had a profound statement to make ...
By the time the %$#@ page opened, I forgot what it was ... old age ... And my, oh my, the speed of Food.com!
In South Africa -- or at least way down on the south end, on the coast, where we live, the weather is usual winter weather: cold, blustery, sometimes rainy.
We still have a water shortage -- the dams lie inland and no matter how much rain we get here, it's not in the catchment areas of the dams.
The "cold" is probably not cold to the rest of the Nothern Hemisphere. It's sort of between 13 - 20 deg C. But, if you add a chilly west wind to 16 degrees, I suppose the actual temp. gets to something like 10- 12 degrees.
Cold enough for us! Normally our houses do not have air conditioning. We have, but it consists of 2 large units in the living area, and one in the main bedroom. Not the kind of general house warming that is customary in Europe.

Joy!! I wonder, with all our absent friends, how many know that you and DH actually moved continents!!
I want to say, "Welcome to Perth!" but of course I am not in Australia!
How long before your beautiful cats can rejoin you??
We're okay, except that I keep saying this is an awful year in lots of respects. No less than two of our male friends (rather far away) died in the last few weeks. Scary. Ons heart attack -- he had a weak heart -- and the other one we still do not know the cause. And another close friend contracted cancer. And then he had to have an op for bleeding ulcers! Really not very nice, all this.
Now our new personal worry is my mother!! Yikes. Spoke to her yesterday, and she had a bad cold. Also, from what she says I think her heart is really bad. BUT let's face it: she's 92. She's taking the death of my dad very badly too. And let's face it: no matter the age or reason, you can't tell anyone to be "realistic" about a death, or "face the truth". Mom has lost her soul mate and she cannot really handle it. (And we cannot do it FOR her. )
Wrap up warmly, Joy!! All over S A the weather is really changeable, and mostly very cold and stormy.

Okay, so the Zaar World Tour came to our shores, and went again.
It was great, but I doubt that they'll bring new traffic to this forum!
Those of you who lurk, please feel free to drop a line in here!!
This forum has always been quiet, but by now it's like a haunted house!!!

Gee, how awfully bleak... this chat!
My news is that -- after a long drought -- we've had far too much rain!!!! The very low dams are now overflowing, thank you, angels, but please turn off the rain now!
We have a new small river from run-off, right at the front door, in our tiny front yard. This is not at all funny ... we do have a storm water drain but for this never-ending run-off this is not enough.

Of course I am interested. do you see that they have arrested two British men in Somalia, they have something to do with the recent kidnapping of those women, discusting, if you ask me that we seem to be going backwards not forwards at all.

Joy, a guy I knew did not quite believe in evolution. You know the type, there is usually some religious thread involved.
But he said an interesting thing: "I do believe in devolution ..."
Think about it! That maybe we (or some of the human race) used to be much more highly evolved than we are now, and that the human race is devolving, i e going downwards ...
When I read the papers I come to the conclusion we are not evolving, but devolving!!
