mmm, went shopping today,
I ended up buy some frozen squid and baby Octopus,
I dont really know why I bought them, just seemed a good idea at the time, but now what am I going to do with them ?
(also got a bag of whitebait, bout half a kilo, I reckon, also got a bag of crab claws, I was going to make a crab starter, bit like a prawn cocktail, but open to any suggestions for them)
(I was looking for a receipe of a dish I had in Thailand, Squid with curry powder, but I cant find it in here)

(You haven't really posted in the right place, what the heck!

)
Your squid: has it been cleaned? What does it consist of: whole squid, not skinned, or ... well, what
does your squid/calamari look like?
Octopus: now that is a bit of a worry. You might do better if you posted in the
Greek forum, where a lady called Evelyn is the host, and she is VERY informed and will know all about octopus. No, I don't have the link. Try putting this into the address line, and you'll get ALL the Zaar forums:

(Oops, I hope that works).
Squid: I cannot give you a lesson in cleaning whole squid. It's fairly easy, if slippery ... the pinkish skin have got to be peeled off ...
Then: (and this is as far as I will go without more information) calamari/squid can be done in ONE of TWO ways. Either you fry small tubes or large tubes cut into rings VERY fast in VERY hot oil, OR you use a slow, stewing recipe. Nothing in-between will work well.
Over-fried squid is tough.
I'm skipping octopus, because I think I've had a try at it once when I was very newly married and very kitchen stupid.
Whitebait!! Now there is a little fish food I haven't seen in a long while, where I am (southeastern coast of South Africa). When we lived and worked in Johannesburg I would buy boxes of whitebait and fry it ... I adored it, my DH did not much.
Roll the whitebait in white flour. Fry them quickly in a pan of shallow oil. Drain on kitchen paper. Lightly season with sea salt flakes. Serve with chilled white wine or whatever. Remember a few wedges of lemon or lime!!
The crab I can't help with. I always seem to battle with crab. I now see to it that when a certain brother-in-law comes to visit, that he has a cooked crab to slowly pick to pieces and cut open ... He loves it.
