Which German Recipe do you make often?

How did she cook the kohl rabi? We usually peel it, dice it into sticks like thick fries and stem it until soft, about 7 - 10 minutes then melt some salted butter on it and add a bit of breadcrumbs.

The end result was a creamy sort of sauce with the kohlrabi. Pretty sure she sliced it.

Did see cook the sauce with the kohlrabi or did she cook the kohlrabi and then add the sauce to it? My grandmother-in-law sometimes cooks it and pours cream on it with a bit of finely diced parsley, and I have seen in restaurants with Hollandaise sauce. Those are my other thoughts if you don't think the butter and breadcrumbs is what you are looking for.

Peel it, slice it. Saute in butter with some salt, pepper and fresh grated nutmeg until soft. Add some flour to the pans and stir to make a bit of roux.
Slowly add some chicken broth. Bring to a boil, and serve. Can sprinkle with dried breadcrumbs sauted with a little butter. YUM.

I don't remember the process -- unfortunately, I wasn't paying attention back then. I just know it was tasty. Thanks for all your help -- I guess I'll just give it a whirl.

I'm German, my husband is American and thankfully he likes my German recipes. Our favorites are:
Kohlrouladen (cabbage rolls stuffed with ground meat)
Beef Rouladen
Königsberger Klopse
Gulasch
Zwiebelkuchen (onion pie)
Rhabarberkompott (stewed rhubarb)
Hühnerfrikassee (chicken fricassee)
etc ....

Oh yes, dumplings! In fact, I should make them myself .... have been lazy lately and just bought them

I also like potato pancakes. A long time ago I told my husband that my grandma loves to eat potato pancakes with Apfelmus (Apple sauce) on top of them .... he just gave me that look and said Germans are weird hahaha

I don't know how that apple sauce on potato pancakes is weird. Whenever I went to a restaurant in the US that served potato pancakes, apple sauce almost always came with potato pancakes. It wasn't just the German restaurants either, the kosher restaurant near my parents served them with some apple sauce or sour cream. It must be a West Coast thing not to do that.

Hehehe, I'm gonna tell my husband that we are not weird But it's actually interesting, that Americans and Germans do things so similar (if we are talking about potato pancakes) even though our countries are so far apart ... unless it has something to do with the influence of European immigrants like Germans who came to the US in the 1680's, the 19th century etc.....

If yiu want to talk about weird. I thought it was weird of Americans to eat ham with cranberry sauce or to make jellow salads with cottage cheese and cheddar cheese and pears in it. LOL

I think that Jell-o salads are weird, especially when they have cheese in them! I never see ham with cranberry sauce, turkey yes, but ham no; probably wouldn't like it because I think turkey and cranberry sauce isn't very tasty.

Iguess it depends on which part of the US one lives in. I love home-made cranberry sauc, relish, compote and serve it with many things. It reminds me a lot of Preiselbeeren in Germany., but I cann't stand the canned cranberry sauce, unless it's used in a recipe.
