Memories of Camp Marlin in Connecticut from the 50's

I have great memories of sleepaway camp.
I learned how to horseback ride, how to short a sheet, I drank bug juice, went to Caberet, experienced Color War, had my first kiss, remember Friday night Shabbas services.
I also learned to water ski on the Delaware River, how to skim a stone on the river and clearly recall salamander races.
If anyone has any memories of Camp Marlin in Connecticut or Camp Stoney Hollow in Bushkill, Pennsylvania, please let me know.
It was the greatest experience of my youth and I think all children should experience sleepway camp.

We were talking about sleep away camp once that I remember writing about on this forum. My younger son went to a URJ camp for the first time this past summer and loved it. He is returning this summer. His camp is in PA. If you are on facebook, you could search the camp name and there may be a group you could join and then you may find old alumni that way too. I just discovered fb and did the same and BTW, recipezaar is on there too and I became a fan! Check it out!

I went to Camp Moshava in Honesdale, Pennsylvania back in the 70s. For the 13 summers of my life before that my family had gone up to bungalow colonies in the Catskill Mountains and going from such a free atmosphere to the regimented life of sleep away camp was hard for me. I didn't like it much.

i loved going to sleepaway camp, it was 3 weeks of freedom from my family and routine. i went to camp sussex in nj for 6 years, camp cummings in ny for 2 years, and i even met my dh in camp galila in the catskills.
we used to visit friends in moshava all the time.

I didn't get to go to sleep away camp or any camp for that matter, but my DH has wonderful memories of Camp Ramah in Wisconsin. My children (3) and my granddaughter have all gone to Ramah here in CA. They all have wonderful stories to tell. My grand daughter will be going for her 5th or 6th year and hopes to go to Ramah in Israel when she is 16, only one more year.

Don't remember any Ira. Funny story in synopsis: Met one of my counselors years later as she and her husband were friends with mine unbeknown to me. We really gave her a hard time in camp and I never made the connection until we visited her. She opened the door... She now lives in Israel, Sharon Benzioni.

Is she a licensed tour guide, by any chance? If so she and her husband are old friends of my husband's and newer ( since we are married) friends of mine!

Yes, I think her maiden name may have been Robinson.

I don't know whether she is a tour guide. I do know that her husband used to work ( still does?) for the Israeli govt. and were posted in Toronto and Los Angeles (and perhaps other locales as well).

That's Sharon! Well... we're just proving, once again, what a small world the Jewish community is! My husband met them when Moshe was posted to Toronto and they have been friends ever since. Sharon is a tour guide (and a FABULOUS one!). The last time we were in Israel she arranged a wonderful day for us. My husband had never been to Masada- it has not always been disabled-friendly- but it is much better now and she was able to arrange for him to be completely comfortable and safe and he was able to see everything. She came with us and we had a wonderful time. They are such lovely people.

We were married at Shaarei Shomayim and my husband was very active there! Would you like to z-mail me this man's last name, since by intial alone he might not get it? LOL- what a small world!
