    Anyone remember "Ireland's Restaurant" - Nashville

    My fiancee used to frequent a Nashville restaurant called "Ireland's" and he says they had the BEST "steak biscuits" and is craving them. Does anyone have a similar recipe? He described them as thin sliced tender steak, such as sirloin or ribeye (and not really like Philly cheese steak), on big fluffy biscuits. Thanks for any ideas you can post. icon_smile.gif

    "Ireland's" went out of business (was bought out) some years ago. It's thought that the entire chain is defunct as far as people in this area know.

    Seanachie's has since gone out of business also.

    I made a few phone calls and the closest thing anyone can recommend is Loveless Cafe in the way of a steak biscuit.

    Not sure that's even close but it might be a starting point.

    I'm going to keep looking for this. I'm curious to try it also, now.

    Thank you so much for your reply! icon_biggrin.gif I knew "Ireland's" went out of business, but I couldn't find any information about it on the net. Thus, my post here. I'd love to surprise my man with a "close" version of those steak biscuits he used to love. If you -- or any other 'Zaar members -- find a clone recipe, I'd sure be grateful.

    I'll keep looking. Hundreds of local chefs around and I'm sure one of them had to have worked for Ireland's making those steak biscuits.

    Wow! I worked at the Ireland's in the Brookwood Convenience Center (Birmingham, AL) back in the mid 70's. There was another one down town, too. I remember the Steak and Biscuits, Skerry Fries, Kilarney Fudge Pie, and the fabulous salad dressings. The biscuits were actually very small with bits of marinated steak (they came in 18 inch plastic slivers imported from Australia). I do not recall the specific recipes because everything came pre-packaged. You could order the 5 biscuit plate with salad, skerry fries, and bread for like 2.95. Anyway, all these food secrets has be locked away in a vault somewhere just waiting for someone to re-open the franchise! I know it would be a huge hit.

    Of course, having been to Ireland, there is nothing over there remotely resembling anything that was served at Irelands. But I really guess that doesn't matter unless you head over there thinking you are going to find it. You won't. Oh yeah, and Loveless version is a long way away from what we are talking about. The closest thing to an Irelands Steak and Biscuit would be maybe a Sister Shubert's biscuit with a little dap of butter and a piece of tenderloin marinated in garlic, oil, salt, pepper, and a touch of Worchershire or other sauce. OK time to go get a steak!

    Thanks for that interesting reply! Not exactly the "recipe" I was looking for, but I sure enjoyed reading your post. icon_smile.gif I hope to get to Ireland (and Scotland) some day. I imagine the food there is nothing like what you get here. However, I thought it would be nostalgic to find some "copycat" Ireland's restaurant recipes. Thanks again, and best wishes to you!

    Hello --
    Sorry if this is a waste of your time, as I know you are really looking for the recipe, but I went to college in Nashville in the early '80's and Ireland's was my favorite place to eat! The steak busquits were awesome and they also had barbeque, chicken and maybe one more -- but the steak was the popular one. They came with a dipping marinade like auj jus (sp) and it was delicious. The Kilarny Chocolate pie was great too! There were 4 locations in Nashville: Rivergate, Hickory Hollow, Murfreesboro Rd. and 21st Ave (our favorite!). Slowly each of the locations closed and I too have looked for something similar but have yet to find it. Like the other poster said -- it would be great if someone could reopen the franchise. I think it would be a hit!
    Anyway, it brought back good, nostalgic memories for me to see this post.
    As a total aside, there was another place about the same time in Nashville called "Spat's" on 21st Avenue. They had an awesome entree of marinated chicken, and a homemade salad dressing that was the bomb!
    The third place we loved was The Old Spaghetti Factory on 2nd downtown -- it IS still there and is great!
    If you find the Ireland's secret, please post it!

    There is a blog called "" where you can find the Kilarney Fudge Pie recipe (same one from the restaurant). Perhaps, this person would have the recipe for the steak biscuits? If so, would you please share?

    There are 2 places that serve almost exact copies of the famous "steak biscuits". On Nolensville Rd. near the Railroad overpass a smoky bar called Greenlands serve the plate of 5 small steak and biscuits that are as good if not just like the famous Irelands along with the shoestring fries that is wonderful. The other place is Strattons in Ashland City the famous 50's era hamburger joint has a very good copy of Irelands steak biscuit also. Hopes this helps I know you are looking for a recipe but maybe someone knows a cook at one of these 2 places.

    Ya'll, I am LOVING this post -- and certainly NOT a waste of my time. With everyone who's replied, I feel like I'm getting closer and closer...and who knows? Like another poster wrote -- maybe someone will read this thread and consider opening an Ireland's again! With so many great restaurants in the Nashville area, there really isn't anything like Ireland's. (And oh yeah -- the Old Spaghetti Factory is great -- there is one in St. Louis too, in an old brick building down on the riverfront.)     There was a branch of Ireland's in Tuscaloosa, AL home of The University of Alabama, too. It closed and was opened up as Christopher's and they also had the steak and biscuits. Unfortunately, Christopher's closed, too.

    I did a search and came up with some contact information for someone whose resume includes that he is the former CEO of Ireland's Restaurants, Inc. Surely he would know all about the restaurant's most famous item!

    If you find out any insider info from him, will you post here and let us know?

    I worked at Ireland's at 21st, across the street from Vanderbilt, in 1980. That was the original location and had been there for years. The steak bisquits were made from sirloin tip cut into half-dollar size pieces then grilled in a large heap on the gridle. The bisquits were small half-dollar sized as well, and made from scratch every morning. I'm not sure about the recipe', but they were more bread-like than bisquit-like. And yes, there were BBQ, Chicken, and the last was a small Burger-bisquit, in addition to the Steak-bisquit. The Steak-bisquit was served with a bullet of gravy for dipping. I only worked there for about six months, but in those six months, I gained a lot of weight eating those delicious things after my shift. Another great place in Nashville is Dalt's, on the west side. They make a great patty-melt with onion rings.
