As far as I know, they ARE dishwasher safe. The Royal Albert/Royal Doulton website says this (and this is a cut and paste directly from the website):
"Washing in a Dishwasher. China can be washed in a dishwasher at a maximum temperature of 149°F. The "Short Wash" or "China and Crystal" cycle is sufficient for normal cleaning. Do not overload dishwasher; load china securely on racks so that the pieces do not touch each other.
Washing by Hand. When washing by hand, avoid using scouring pads and/or abrasive detergents. Most stains can be removed by soaking the item in warm water before washing. Stubborn stains can be removed by soaking in a MILD bleach solution for up to one hour.
Recommended Liquid and Gel Dish Detergents. Any liquid or gel dish detergent from a national brand.
Recommended Standard Powders & Tablets. Cascade"
Additionally, I've read elsewhere (although I can't quote the source, apologies) that it's best to avoid dishwasher detergents with lemon in them because they're harsher than the regular detergents.
I wash
all of my fine chinas in the dishwasher, with the exception of the 1920's set, but on the "china and crystal" setting.
So the question is....why do you say they have to be hand washed? Am I missing something important?? I would really appreciate any info you can share! Thanks!
