Pick A Chef FAQ
What is the difference between Preemie, Newbie, Undiscovered & Seasoned Chefs?
On a chef’s About Me page you will see “joined: date” just below & to the right of their name. Below their name will be the number of recipes that they have posted & below that will be the number of times their recipes have been reviewed.
Preemie Chef = Has posted 3 or fewer recipes. (Join date does not matter.)
Newbie Chef = Join date is ANYTIME in 2008. (Number of reviews on their recipes does not matter.)
Undiscovered Chef = Join date is BEFORE 2008 & has received 25 or
fewer total reviews on their recipes.
Seasoned Chef = Join date BEFORE 2008 & have 26 or more total reviews on their recipes.
Can I adopt a chef who isn't on the "pick me" list yet? If so, how?
Yes, the same adoption guidelines will apply:
Seasoned Chefs are only available for adoption AFTER they have adopted someone themselves and will be automatically added to the “pick me” list when they are eligible.
If you are a Newbie or Undiscovered Chef you may adopt anyone (except a Seasoned Chef who is not yet eligible).
If you are a Seasoned Chef, please make your first adoption a Newbie or an Undiscovered Chef.
Post your request in the PAC Main Thread in the same format as described in the rules.
Where can I find chefs that are not on the “pick me” list?
You can find more Newbies & UCs by checking out the top 40 newest members list on the home page, in the ABC chefs directory or visit the Newbies forum.
Paging through today’s recipes and reviews should also give you some chefs to select from. Remember: Only seasoned chefs who have adopted a newbie or an undiscovered chef and have been added to the “Pick Me” list are eligible for adoption.
How long do I have to sign up? You may sign up and/or "pick" a chef anytime from now through the review deadline Oct 19th. Once you have selected a chef (and yes, you may select more than 1), you prepare their recipes any time before the end of the event, at your convenience.
Are there any restrictions on the recipes I choose?
You may choose recipes with or without reviews, as long as you were not the previous reviewer.
How many chefs can I adopt?
You can adopt as many chefs as you can honestly prepare three recipes each for before the deadline. Some PAC players adopt one, some adopt many. It is entirely up to you and your schedule. Adopting a baby or two, completing those recipes & then adopting more is always welcome. Just keep in mind that ALL reviews are due by the deadline.
How do I request an adoption?
Requesting an adoption is quick & easy!
Click on “reply” at the bottom of the page to open a posting box & type the following:
Your chef name & number
I would like to adopt:
Chef #yyyyy #yyyyy – Newbie Chef (or Seasoned, or Undiscovered)
Click “Post”
**Once posted to the Main Thread, this format (typing “chef #yyyyy”) will create a link to that chef’s page. Typing the number alone the second time will show just the chef’s number (no link) that your PAC hosts will use to quickly place this baby under your name in the Adoption Center. It’s also a double check for you when posting to make sure you are adopting the chef you wanted.
**One missing or transposed numeral in the chef’s number can have you adopting someone completely different or no one at all and can seriously delay your adoption.
How will I know my tag is valid?
Once you see it in the Facts & Figures thread or you are acknowledged in the thread by a host, you will know the tag is valid.
**On opening weekend ONLY, we will have the Shark Fest thread running. Here you will be able to check for your adoption approvals. We try to keep the Adoption Center as up to date as possible, but we do have to sleep sometime. LOL You may have to scroll back a few pages, but only as far as the last post by a PAC Host that states “Page 1 is current to here”. Things do move quickly on opening weekend. Please be patient!
I am a Seasoned Chef: How do I get adopted?
A seasoned chef is eligible for adoption after they have adopted at least one Newbie or Undiscovered chef first & committed to making 3 of that baby’s recipes. When that adoption has been approved, their name will automatically be added to the “Seasoned Chef’s Pick Me” list.
**Once the seasoned chef has been adopted from the Pick Me list, they cannot be adopted again. The main idea of Pick-A-Chef is to get each adopted chef 3 new recipe reviews.
What do I do after I adopt a chef?
Once your adoption has been approved you will choose 3 recipes from that chef’s public recipes. When you decide which recipes you would like to make please post in the main thread.
Your chef name & number
I will be making the following recipes by chef #xxxx
Recipe #xxxx #xxxx
Recipe #xxxx #xxxx
Recipe #xxxx #xxxx
You are not required to choose all 3 recipes immediately, just be sure to post what you are making as you decide. These choices will be transferred to page one of the thread & you will have a quick reference there on what chefs you’ve adopted, what recipes you’ve chosen & will be able to see them checked off as you report in the thread that you have completed a recipe.
How do I post a photo of my completed recipe in the Main Thread?
Photos are not required to participate in this game but they are always welcome. You can follow these simple steps to post the same photo you posted to the recipe in the main thread.
1. Go to the recipe’s home page & right click on the photo. (The small photos work for this, but a premium member can choose to post a full-size photo to the main thread by clicking on the large version of their photo.)
2. Select “Properties” at the bottom of the drop-down list.
3. The Properties box will open & in the middle of it is the “Address/URL” code starting with “http”.
4. Left click & highlight the entire address, then right click on it & click “copy”.
5. Open a posting box in the main thread & left click on the “Image” button at the top of the window. This will appear: [img]
6. Right click after the [img] & click “Paste”. The address code you copied from the recipe photo will appear.
7. Left click on the “Image” button again & [/img] will appear at the end of the address.
8. You may write any wording before or after this code.
To make sure everything looks the way you want it to & the photo is showing up, you can click the “preview” button at the bottom of the post. If you are happy with everything, click “post”. If not, you can scroll down & make changes.
