Hi all. I hope this isn't a silly question but I want to make hummus and it calls for Tahini, which I sent my hubby for. We have a small ethnic food market here in my little City in Canada.

The only thing he could find is a product called CORTAS brand Tahina which says 100% Ground sesame (comes in a jar similar to a peanut butter jar and a light colour). At 2 Tbsp. it packs 210 calories and a whopping 19 grams of fat. I am on a low-fat plan, so just making sure he has the right stuff as I didn't think Hummus in general higher in fat.

Sorry for my confusion, but anyone that can help me would be muchly appreciated. Thanks!

My understanding is that it's the same, although I've seen where Tahina refers to the paste like peanut butter and Tahini refers to a sauce made with this paste for Falafel.

    Hi DiLo wave.gif

no panic ~ you have the right thing. And yes, it is a bit high in fat but at least it's the 'good' kind icon_wink.gif

Thank you Rez. I used it anyway and the Hummus is fantastic! I'm glad to know it's the good kind.

The sauce you are referring to is called 'toum'. Right?

Sounds like you have the right ingredient.
