Chipfo, Let me know when you're going to start your Chantix and I'll start mine on the same day...Sound like a plan?

Deely, I am going to buy the script Friday and will start taking the Chantix then. I am going to go ahead and try to change a few habits in the meantime. Like.......

After I eat, wait longer before lighting up.

When I wake up in the morning, brush my teeth before having one.

When I get in my truck, wait until I am going down the road before having one (Lighting one at a stop sign of course)

Keep my cigs in my bedroom instead of right beside me. Or as far away as possible, making it work to go get one everytime.

When I sit on my front porch, sit there a few miinutes before lighting one.

Instead of smoking one right before I shower, just go shower, and stuff like that.

Etc, Etc, Just to start helping to get the "trigger" urges to go away, I am starting that today.

You don't have to wait for me, if you got the script filled already, but I understand if you want to, a couple more days to smoke!!!!! LOL, just kidding icon_smile.gif

Bev, welll get him in here then!!!!!

Leggy Peggy, I can't make this a sticky, I can ask Kathy if she will, lets see how it goes.

    I'm sure Kathy can help.

Oh, she can do it, she has stickied threads for me before here in CC (the Contest threads). I will ask her and see what she thinks icon_smile.gif She is a busy person, it may take a day or so for her to respond to my zmail, I try not to bug her too much icon_smile.gif

    This is a great tactic.
I used to keep my cigs in the car when I was in the house
and in the house when I was in the car.
In fact, I stopped having them in the car completely.

A friend stopped smoking by telling herself she'd wait another 10 minutes before the next one.
That was 15 years ago. rotfl.gif

BuddyP, I know you mean well, but you're not someone I want to be a part of my support network. Your tactics haven't worked in the past- and they're not going to work now.

Think of us as puppies - little breathing things that respond to positive reinforcement and not "terror tactics".

Sorry if I offended you, but you post offended me.

Howdy! This is my second day on Chantix. I have high hopes this time around. I've cut down from 1 and a half to 2 packs a day to just one pack a day.
Wow! Look at all this support!
From stoppers and nonsmokers. Zaar folks are wonderful!
Thanks for all the tips(wrote them all down) and well wishes.
    *hugs* to everyone!

    Hi Buddy,

I know you are trying to help, I appreciate your concern. But different people have different levels of addiction and willpower, some people love smoking and want to stop for health reasons only, some people have grown tired of the habit and want to stop but the addiction has such a hold that it makes it very difficult.

Others can set them down and walk away never to smoke again, much like you described yourself, kudos to you man. But if everyone found it as easy it was for you, we wouldn't need to stop, we already would have. We are all different, some people get very emotional when trying to stop and have a really hard time with it and need the support of peers and/or the help of medications to quite.

Some people get so disappointed in themselves for trying and not being able to stop, they give up, they quit trying to stop, and keep smoking.

With all the different kinds of people comes different levels of emotions, on this subject of stopping smoking. It is REALLY stressful for some, less for others.

I am so happy you could lay cigarettes down so easily, I have tried 4 times now and I still smoke, it is time for the medical approach, Chantix has a 45% rate of success, if that's what it takes, then thats what I am going to do.

When i stopped (omg thinking about it makes it feel like just the other week and it's 34 years)the first three week were bad so moodie and bad tempered but it was all worth it so good luck to you all i know how hard it will be, just as long as you dont let anyone bully you or make you feel bad for wanting one i still do but i won't. My DD has raynards and if she can't stop she has a good chance of having a limb amputated later in life and poor thing she is just so addicted and failed so many times she needs to read this it might help her.

Kudos to all of you who're trying to stop this nasty addiction. I would like to make an observation though. For some folks, it's an addiction. For others, it's a habit. For the "habit" folks, stopping isn't as difficult. The "addiction" folks have it much harder. One of my friends put it this way. He said that he was a former addict and that nicotine was his drug of choice. He also said there were habits associated with his addiction that he had to change also in order to be successful. He had to find something to replace each particular habit. He stopped smoking over 20 years ago after over 30 years of smoking so I guess he found the solution for him.

My mother was asthmatic and a smoker. She developed heart disease and died at age 50. I know what dangers there are and want each one of you to be successful in your attempt to become "former" smokers.

Best wishes to every one of you. I'll be cheering for you!
