Hi all, I'm Ma Field. It all started with a lentil and rice stew....
Seriously, I like to try recipes from anywhere & everywhere. We live near a college town and have the benefit of several ethnic restaurants to pique my interest. From there it's just a step to my local world market and into the kitchen to try and duplicate my favorites.
'Zaar is a wonderful resource and the people I've "met" are just awesome! This thread is no exception.

Welcome Ma !
Apologies for the terribly belated welcome I hope you have fun browsing through our forum. Please do pop in again if you have any questions or reviews for us
We're having a gastronomic tour of North Africa & the Middle East at the moment, we've been to Algeria & next month we'll be hitting Bahrain! Come along & take a look, you might find some recipes that take your fancy.
Spice of the Month Club is a lot of fun too - we are currently on cardamom.......
Happy cooking!

Hello! My name is Martha and I am Egyptian-American. I married an American that started off not eating ANYTHING that wasn't "meat & potatoes" or fast food. I'm proud to say that now one of his favorite foods is stuffed grape leaves (wara' anab) I love cooking food (and eating) Egyptian food and am always looking forward to new recipes. Ma' Al Salama.

Hi Martha & WELCOME!! We are so happy to have you here! There's lots of stuff to check out in ths Forum, so feel free to jump in anywhere & start playing. If you need any help, just holler. I am currently in Maine on holiday with dial up which is annoying to no end (the dial up connection, lol) but I do stick my head in when I can. And well done on your hubby's diet!

Hello everyone- brand new to this forum! Trying to break DH and I out of a rut of "Americanized" food all the time. I'm currently interested in Indian foods and needing some help from people more experienced than I. I've had the pleasure of trying authentic Indian food once a few years back and though I was pretty timid in my choices, did enjoy the items that I selected. I'd like to try other indian dishes, but have to be careful what I choose to introduce DH to as he's much more hesitant to be adventurous with foods. I'm open for recipe suggestions but please keep in mind the following: for right now, the simpler the recipe (including ingredients) the better; I can get most seasonings either at our commissary or by Penzey's mail order; we're not lamb eaters (at this point); we aren't afraid of spicy; all veggies/dairy items are welcome; I'd like to stay away from dried fruits in savory items for now (I think it would be too much for DH). Again- I'd appreciate any recommendations!

Hi Houseblend
Welcome to the NA*ME forum! I love Indian food too, the good thing about it is that it is such a diverse cuisine that there is almost certainly something for everyone!
For specifically Indian food advice, you may also like to pop in & see the friendly hosts in the Asian Forum. ....
http://www.recipezaar.com/bb/viewforum.zsp?f=33
You will get lots of help & advice there & some great recipe suggestions I'm sure
As for the lamb, you can usually sub beef or chicken in most lamb dishes successfully. And fruit in savoury dishes is very much a regional thing so don't be put off lol.
What kind of dishes are you interested in trying?

Hi everyone. I'm Kathy and I'm new to this forum. I love the food showcased here; I especially love tagines. I have a Paula Wolfert's Moroccan cookbook and have tried several things from it. I was amazed at how good couscous can be when made the traditional way. Most importantly, being part of this forum will compell me to make more of the fine NA*ME recipes posted here.

Salam everyone
I just noticed the meet and greet topic here. I been a member of zaar for a little while but I'm just starting to browse the forums now that I'm a stay at home mom for awile. I jumped right into zaar and played ZWT last year and had alot of fun. I took a break for awile because I was pregnant and couldnt bear the sight or smell of most foods. Thankfully I'm able to cook again and get back into some Zaar fun. I'm currently playing Ramadan Tag
