Hi everyone, this place is wonderful to find recipes for whatever you might have bought at the store including products that you do not know much about. I appreciate it that I do not have to drag my large collection of cookbooks to Arizona from Wisconsin.

I'm Maria...Mexican American, raised in Arizona, currently living in the Pacific Northwest. I converted to Islam some time back so that's SORT OF how I came to love ME food.
In our house we eat a 1/3 Mexican, 1/3 Arabic and 1/3 'American' mix of foods, I'm trying to get away from meat which is weird b/c I just started using mostly halal/zabiha meat about two years ago.
Fave dishes...Maklooba, which I make a pretty decent version of, Mansef..which I haven't had in forever but am afraid to try on my own, fatayer (meat or spinach), chiles rellenos, REAL flour tortillas, green corn tamales, anything I can make easily in my hurry hurry life!
Now I'm hungry...
Salaam!
Wa alaikum Salaam!
Oh it sounds just yummy eating at your house
Mensaf is one of my favorite dishes, inshallah I will get around to posting my recipe for it one day.

My first recollection of trying Middle Eastern food was in a restaurant that I went to with my Mom when I was about 7 years old. It was called Old Damascus. I don't remember the
food I ate but I do remember the dessert tray!
My best friend in the whole world (my Arab sistah) is from Beirut and by golly, her Mama made the best hummus! (It was made from scratch of course-no recipe!)
I've always enjoyed trying new cuisines since I was very young. I absolutely love the flavors of the Middle East and enjoy studying the parallels between Spanish food (with the Moorish influence), Mexican food (the similar spices), French, etc.
What I appreciate most of the Arabic people is their hospitality!
I look forward to trying new dishes and discovering new spices and herbs.
Your pal,
cg

I love tadiq. Not the easiest dish to prepare however.

TADIQ! Oh my gosh! I haven't had that in a long time. It is soooo good and I'd forgotten all about it! I followed Um Safia here from the Australia/NZ recipe swap. Hi!
I love Indian food and Middle Eastern food. I'll always remember the pain of a Persian friend whose American teenage daughter said of tadiq, "ooo! I don't want the burned part!"
I've studied Arabic a little bit over the years. Sometimes I call my step-son Jordan "al-Urdooni" and my son Aaron "Haroun". I haven't worked out anything Arabic-sounding for my sons Liam and Rowan.

 Hi Melissa
it's great to see you here... WELCOME!!! I have recipe posted which gives a GREAT tadiq! ( Stunning Javaher Polow - Persian Jewelled Rice)
I love how you've found the Arabic for your sons' names - that is so fun! I'll see if I can come up with something for Liam & Rowan
Looking forward to seeing you around

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the NA*ME forum. I have been a member of Zaar since October of last year & I have been loving every minute of it (except for the conversion to the new format... shhh).
I am married to a Moroccan man & he recently came to live with me in the States. Ever since then I have tried to make him feel at home with dishes from his country.
It has been a pleasure to sample the wonderful recipes on this site. I have also had the enjoyment of posting some of my own. You can check out the recipes in my cookbook Moroccan Cooking.

Hi all, I'm Ma Field. It all started with a lentil and rice stew....
Seriously, I like to try recipes from anywhere & everywhere. We live near a college town and have the benefit of several ethnic restaurants to pique my interest. From there it's just a step to my local world market and into the kitchen to try and duplicate my favorites.
'Zaar is a wonderful resource and the people I've "met" are just awesome! This thread is no exception.
