What a great new forum! I can't wait to get new ideas on setting a table and decorating ideas!
I looked through my photos and I only found these two from Christmas a few years ago. I guess I'm going to have to start taking more photos of my table settings from now on.
Here is my dining room table at Christmas - not too exciting. The runner is made of felt and netting with sequins and it was made by my grandmother, but you can't see it very well in this shot.
My Italian cookies set up on my server the same Christmas.

This is such a great idea and seeing this thread was a life saver for me. I have a request I'm hoping some of you can help me with. My DH is currently in the Middle East and returning home Aug. 10th. I've a bar b q planned with lots of family and friends. We'll be eating mostly on the screened in patio overlooking our yard and pond.
I've love some really differant, but casual ideas for decorating to make it a really special event for him. Any ideas, I'm not much for decorating, but would sure like to do something.
Thanks for any help as I'm a little over whelmed with the whole idea

Bonnie, I know we can all come up with some great ideas for you.
Can you give us some ideas of the types of things your husband is interested in??

I have to say his BIGGEST interest is family, he loves all our kids and their kids too, but he also loves anything outside, (but NOT hunting or killing things) we like hiking, gardening, and just sitting outside. It might help to know our manufactured home sits on a lovely 41 acre lot, with the screened in back porch over looking a 1 acre pond with a waterfall.
If I can figure out how to do it, I'll up load a picture of the screened in porch most of it will be taking place at. We'll be having around 20 people (kids and adults) here and I have a large table inside, and a concrete, (Unscreened) patio attached to the screened in porch. Don't know if you need all this info, but thought it might help.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Bonnie can't figure out how to do the pic[/img]

Bonnie-
Are you serving buffet style or sit down dinner? Either way I would have some pictures of the family on or around the table and I would use clean garden tools and long with plants from out in the yard to help decorate the table and sorrounding area. I hope this helps some and good luck .

I enjoyed reading through all of the postings. This is something I really like to do. I haven't take pictures of my tables before so I guess, I will have to remember to take a picture the next time I decorate one.

Bonnie, do you have your photos uploaded to a hosting site like photobucket? If so, all you need to do is copy the url into your post, highlight it, and click image (found right above your post).
It will look like this:

Are you just using one table? Also, what time are you planning to have the party?
Without seeing your photos, these are my thoughts. Since the party is outside, I would utilize nature as much as possible in decorating. I would suggest a simple tablecloth with fresh flowers for a centerpiece. If the party is in the late afternoon/early evening, I think several votive candles scattered around would be lovely.
Hopefully you can post your photos and we can come up with a decorating scheme for you.
