    Our Chat Room

Chat in real time with all your friends and make new ones in the comfort of your own home. We play word games, exchange recipes from Recipezaar, tell jokes, get immediate answers to cooking questions, and just visit with each other. Anything goes as long as it is respectful and clean. I am very proud to say that Recipezaar has one of the best chat rooms on the Koach.com server with very very few trouble makers or problems.

You can find the link to the chat room above the talk forums (right above Request a Recipe). Click on "Community Forums" at the bottom of any page in order to find the whole list with the chat room at the top of it.

Our scheduled chats are Wednesday and Friday nights at around 9 pm Eastern time, but we would love to see people using the room every day or evening. The room belongs to everyone on Recipezaar, and you don't need an invitation to go there. The same rules apply there that apply here. Just respect each other and play nice.

If you missing getting your chat name on sign in, you can still get it after you get to the room. To get your name you can type in /nick and then your name (IE: /nick Karen). This is called an irc command and will get you your name. If someone on the chat server is already using the name that you wish to use, the server will let you know and you will have to chose a different name as it only allows one person at a time to use that name.

    Microsoft 2.5
To download Microsoft 2.5, click the address below and save to disk. This is a very easy download and does not take up much room on your disk.

    http://www.mermeliz.com/cchat.htm

After you have it installed, go to start/programs and look for Microsoft chat or Microsoft 2.5.
Double click it to open up the chat box.
Type in koach.com in the box under Server.
Click the circle next to go to chat room: and type in #Recipezaar_Chat in the box beside it. It is case sensitive.
Click the next tab to the right at the top of the box that says Personal Info.
Under Real Name, just put in some XXXXX.
Under Nick name, type in the name you wish to use to chat with.
Do not type in your email or anyone can see it.
You may put in a brief description if you want to, but remember that people can see it if they want to.
Click apply and ok. You should go right to the room.

When you get there, be sure to save the room to favorites which is at the top of your chat screen. If you would like the room to be on your desk top, left click it once to highlight it and then right click it and send it to your desktop.

How do I make those automated greetings and things in Chat?
These instructions are for using the Microsoft Chat client:

Go to View > Macros > Define Macro
    Click on the "Rules" Tab
    Click on Add Rule button
    Event = A User joins a room
    Nickname = Anyone but me
    Room = My activated room
Action = Play a Sound on Your Machine
Sound File Name — choose from your set of .wavs

You can also make the Action to Execute a Macro, and you can automatically welcome anyone entering the room with a hug or a hello.

The Chat Room for Mac users

Go to http://www.macorchard.com/chat/Conversation.php and download Conversation v 2.4.1 (if that is compatible with your OS) or the earlier version. They both work.

Run the application. Under the FILE menu it will say NEW. Select that and it should say "Server" at the top of the dialog box that pops up.

In the text box below, way at the bottom, type irc.koach.com and to the right of that is a drop down menu - select open & add to favorites.

In that same file/new/dialog box where it said server at the top - change that to "channel" and type in #Recipezaar_Chat.

    Pirch Users
    http://www.pirch.com/software.html

If you have not yet installed pirch, double click the icon and save to disk.
Open Pirch and click on login.
Under IRC Network, I have UNDERNET. You can probably find it in the drop down menu if you click on the arrow, but if you can't, just type it there.
Type irc.koach.com in the server box.
Under Personal information, leave the name as Pirch.
    Under username type in pirch@pirchat.com
Under Login name type the first one as you would want to use it in chat.
    Chose something else in Alternate.
Make sure the auto connect box is checked
Check the invisible on server box.
Now click on the connect button.
Once you see the server message, you know you are on the server. Click on Channel at the top of your chat box; click on list channels.
Scroll down to #recipezaar_chat and double click it. You should go right into the room.

    mIRC users
    http://www.mirc.com/

Setting up the connection: Double click on the MIRC icon on your desktop. A window will pop up at the top left corner. It will say mIRC options on the right you will see a drop down menu that says IRC Networks and a drop down menu. The word in the menu will say "All" Keep it at "All" Next to all (on the right of it) you will see "ADD" Click on that. Fill out the spaces as follows:
    Description: Type in irc.koach.com
    IRC Server: Type in irc.koach.com
    Port(s) Type in 6667
    Group: leave blank
    Password: leave blank
    Click on OK

Underneath ALL is another drop down menu. Click on it and then click on . It may be at the top of the menu or you may have to scroll down to get to it.
Further down you will see Full name: Put the name you want to use on MIRC such as your "Zaar" name. DO NOT put your full name there.
Please DO NOT put in your email address. Leave it blank.
Place the name you want to use in chat in Nickname.
Chose a second choice name for Alternative.
Now you are ready to connect. Click on "Connect to IRC Server."

A white window and another box will pop up. In the left hand corner of the box that pops up it will say "mIRC Channels Folder" Directly below that you will see "Enter name of channel to join" and a white long and narrow "box" (Like you see on MSIE or Netscape where you type the URL in.) In that line/box type in #Recipezaar_Chat (it is case sensitive) and then click on ADD You can click on Join that is right next to that box but then you will have to do this step again. Once you have clicked on add, you will need to scroll down until you find #Recipezaar_Chat. Click on it to highlight it and then click on Join (not the join at the top) or double click on the #Recipezaar_Chat. Once you do that step, it should take you into the chat room.

If you have any questions, we have many seasoned chatters on Recipezaar now or you can leave an ISO for me and I will do my best to get your there.

    Your chat room host,
    Karen aka Lady

Cookie Jim, I don't understand what you wish to cancel. There is no membership to the chat room. Was that what you are referring to?

Michelle, you will need to get someone that is better with Pirch then I am to tell you how to do that. When someone comes to chat, I usually just use the tab key to say hello to them. For example, you can type "Hi mi" for your name and hit the tab key and MS, Pirch or mIRC will fill in the rest of the name for you to say "Hi Micheelle_you_Belle".

See Tammy or Hutch in chat next time. Tammy is very knowledgeable about pirch as is Hutch.

I keep getting an error message "could not connect to a server" what am I doing wrong?

Somehow I found a different place to log on to - so now I'm ok.

Now it's gone again. When I was on I couldn't see anything something about popups blocked.

    The Chat Room

When you click the link, you should see a sign in page. Click on login. Once you do, do you see the chat room with people's names on the right side in a list? If no one is chatting at the moment (which they probably aren't), then you will not see any text going on. Those people on the right are typically there all the time, but not necessarily chatting right now. If no one says anything to you, come back this evening when zaar members are there for Saturday night chat from about 7 p.m. CT on.
