    low carb recipes for a new cookbook I will be compiling. It will be anything with less than 10 grams of carb per serving.
    Unfortunately, there is another criteria - is much be low cost.
    I am on a very limit budget and with the way the cost of food has skyrocketted, I really need help here.
    Then there is this thing I have about seafood....yuck! Due to circumstances too lengthy to go into here, seafood is definitely out of the question.
    So with all these restrictions, I ask you all to help me compile this new cookbook, please! My doctor says so! icon_confused.gif

    As far as low cost goes, eggs, ground meats, and frozen vegetables are some of the least expensive items that are great on a low carb diet. I buy in bulk, and freeze in smaller amounts. I only do this when even bulk items are on sale. I also have found that our local grocery stores have the most items marked down for quick sale on Tuesday mornings. I go shopping around 9:00 am, and can find fresh prepackaged salad bags and bowls that are normally $3.99 for 99 cents each. I can also find ground meats, steaks, chops and boneless skinless chicken breast and thighs marked down a great deal on those days. They are either at the sell by date or 1 day before the sell by date. Use or freeze that day and they are still perfectly fresh. I have a vaccuum sealer, so that helps buying in bulk. But even if you buy very inexpensive freezer bags and use 2 (put meat in bag, push out as much air as possible and seal, then place sealed side down in 2nd bag, push out air, and seal again) you still save money over buying 1 pound portions. Also, use coupons if you have them for canned and frozen vegetables, and on the rare occasion when they have them, meats. If you have an opportunity to do so, try shopping on different days of the week to see if you find this is the case at your grocery store as well.

    I am living life "On the Beach" so many of my recipes have more than 10 carbs. However, I have printed out a cookbook for myself, putting them in a binder in clear sheets. The numbers in paranthesis are TOTAL CARBS, NOT NET CARBS! There are 2 links to another website, Linda's Low Carb. Some of her recipes are inexpensive, other more expensive. You might want to check out some of her other recipes from the 2 I linked. I will list some of the recipes I believe fit your requirements!

    Chicken on a Stick (3.9)
    Teriyaki Beef Skewers (4.3)

    South Beach Diet Bacon Egg Muffins (1.3)
    Sausage and Cheese Breakfast Cups-South Beach Diet (3.6)

    Turn Your Crockpot Into a Smokehouse Chicken (0.0...depending on the liquid smoke brand, make sure it is water and smoke only)
    Low Carb Sausage, Mushroom, and Chicken Casserole (5.1...I use canned mushrooms. Great for leftover chicken in recipe above)
    boneless pork chops (0.3)
    Easy Pork Chops (3.0)

    Broccoli Salad (4.0...I sometimes add splenda to this, which ups the carb count a little) (5-8 carbs, depending on serving size) (5-7 carbs, depending on serving size)

    "All-You-Can-Eat Soup Diet" Soup (7.6...I like this, but I have to add LOTS of seasoning to it, such as paprika, oregano, and extra salt, pepper, and chicken bouillon. Sometimes I start it with part chicken broth and part water...seems to have better flavor. I use frozen cauliflower, squash etc. when out of season and fresh costs too much.
    Low Carb Chili (8.6)

    Sugarless Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies (2.1, not including splenda. I always omit the baking soda. )
    Cheesecake--Low Carb (3.2, not including splenda)

    That's a great list you posted there for Nana Lee. Hopefully she can get a good start with those items. I didn't know that about Tuesday mornings, probably has to do with when truck shipments arrive and get processed. Thanks for the heads-up for all of us. icon_smile.gif

    ColCadsMom - Thnak you! I can't imagine the time it must have taken you for this post. I am saving this thread to my new ckbk on super LC recipes. That way I can go back to these links at leisure.

    I do have a food saver vacuum sealer, and I do use it this way.

    Thought I would update you on what has happened since I made the original request to you.
    In 2009 I had gastric by-pass surgery. On Tuesday, November 20, 2012 I had a doc appointment and my weigh in showed I had lost over 100 pounds.
    I am now below the 200 lb level! In the vernacular of the LC eaters, I have reached Onederland!
    I love the LC WOE and will embrace it for the rest of my life.
    BTW - I lost so much weight I no longer had real breasts. I had these long bags that hung below my waist and were filled with just fat. They were so bad they caused me to stoop when walking and had pains on my shoulders from wearing a bra.
    I was able to have breast reduction surgery and now have breast again.

    Wow Nana Lee congratulations on your weight loss!

    DH and I have been doing SB Diet for about a year now. We both lost the weight we needed to (about 15 lbs each) and feel so much better eating this way. Eating low carb is actually quite easy to do and after about 2 weeks, it just comes naturally and you don't really have to think about it.

    I actually started doing SB Diet after trying their Broccoli Soup recipe. We liked it so much that I decided to borrow the book from the library to read more about how the diet works. I'm so happy with the results!

    Glad you have found a WOE that works for both of you. Yes, after the initial 2 weeks it really is easy to continue this WOE.
    I love the page on FB that helps with LC recipes, versions of regular one, and fantastic support!
    I don't think I've ever seen a negative attitude voiced there!

    I am going to make a note to myself to check out your recipes when I have some time on my hands.
