    Hey!! As a kid every time i use to visit my gradma in egypt she use to make a wonderful pumpkin pie (or ara assal). there was no base crust, just a pumpkin and nut filling, and the top consisted of some sort of bachamel type layer. if any one knows how to make this plz post a recipe, i've been looking for it for ages.

    Egyptian Pumpkin Pie (A.k.a Kar Assaly)

    Egyptian Pumpkin Pie with bechamel قرع عسلي بالبشامل

    This is a sweet dessert that can be served warm or cold.


    Preparation Time
    3.5 hours

    1 pumpkin.
    3 tablespoons flour.
    3 cups sugar.
    2 tablespoons butter.
    4 cups milk.
    Nuts and raisins.

    Cooking Instructions:

    Peel pumpkin.
    Cut into large square pieces.
    Put pumpkin pieces in a large deep pan.
    Add sugar and heat over low heat until tender.
    Take pumpkin pieces out of pan.
    Leave sugar and liquid aside.
    With a masher, mash pumpkin well and spread in a baking dish.
    Sprinkle raisins and nuts on top of serfice.
    In a saucepan melt butter and add flour, stir until smooth.
    Pour milk while whisking.
    Add reserved sugar liquid and bring to boil.
    Pour sweet bechamel over mashed pumpkin in baking dish.
    Put baking dish in oven and bake until surface becomes golden brown.
    Serve hot or cold.

    This sound like what you were looking for .... it sounds lovely - I'll have to try it myself!
