Heres my own recipe. It doesn't use actual liquid eggnog but it does have the flavor of it.

I gotta be honest with ya, never had I imagined that there were so many recipes for this seasonal treat! Will try to make them all, though not all THIS holiday season!

I guess I take the lazy way out, but not having time to toil over the refreshments so much, I buy a half-gallon of eggnog ice cream, dump it in a large bowl, add the rum or whisky or whatever I'm using to nog it up, and mix with the hand mixer.

Presto - it's ready to pour into the punch bowl.

No one has complained - at least not to my face - so I'll keep on doing it when I'm in a timewarp!

Thanks to all of you for these great alternatives!

    3 cups non-fat milk
    2 (1 by 2-inch) pieces orange zest
    1 cinnamon stick
    2 large eggs
    1/2 cup sugar
    1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
    Serving suggestion: Ground cinnamon

In a non-stick saucepan combine 2 cups of the milk, the orange zest, and cinnamon. Heat over medium-high heat until just below a boil. Remove from the heat and set aside for 30 minutes to steep. Refrigerate the remaining cup of milk.

Reheat the milk mixture to a simmer over medium heat. Meanwhile, in a medium bowl whisk together the eggs and sugar. Gradually pour half the hot milk into the egg mixture while whisking constantly. Pour the hot egg mixture back into the milk and cook the custard over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened, about 4 minutes. Don't let the custard boil. Strain custard into a bowl. Discard the cinnamon and orange zest. Add the vanilla to the custard and set aside to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until cold.

    Here's my Eggnog recipe.

It's a simple, versatile recipe, which I make every year at the new year's party with my friends.

If there's any left over, I usually use it in place of milk, to make eggnog pancakes the following morning.

It might even work for french toast.
