I have noticed every since the forum split conversations have been down. Here are some things we can do to get this forum rolling along:
Discussion about common middle eastern spices
    Middle eastern recipe swap
    Middle eastern food tour

Feel free to start it if you wish. Right now class is starting, I am finishing up auctions, starting another blog and running the wife and several relations back and forth so I bow out of any projects.

I will gladly research requests and do other support but as to special projects right now I can't.

But either one of you please feel free to do so.

Well I think most of the common ones would be...
allspice, nutmeg, cumin, fennugreek, mint(herbs)....and I think an interesting one would be the black seed a'k'a habeh al barakeh aka nigella sativa and how it is used as food and cure. According to a traditional verse(sunnah) the black seed was a cure for all things except death. I find ancient medicines interesting.
Here is a website with some good info.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigella_sativa

The black seed has been used in the middle east and other parts of the world as cures for centuries. Some people will boil the seeds and drink the water without sugar as a cure for anemia among other things. It is also used in breads.

    wave.gif Everyone!

I have had a busy couple of weeks and plan to jump in this week! I have started collecting some images for some informational posts.... a few are even about spices icon_smile.gif

A Middle East & North Africa recipe swap could be pretty cool - Chef Fifi would you like to co-host something like this with me .... or are you just interested in playing?

Something I think would be interesting would be a discussion of what is eaten/not eaten during Ramadan in different NA/ME countries and how. I find this interesting. For example, in Algiers they always have shorba (either with bulgur or vermicelli added) to break the fast but a woman I knew from Oran (in west of Algeria) said she only had Harira during. Also, we never have couscous during Ramadan.

Just a suggestion as I also noticed there was not much posting as compared to other forums and thought this might be cool.

Hi! I don't know too much about this subject, but have recently posted 2 recipes that pertain to it.
Sultan's Tent Harira is said to eaten everyday during Ramaden to break the daytime fast.
    Here's the other one:
