    Hi Everyone!

    I need your input. I'm not an expert on what qualifies as gluten-free, and we've had a request to remove these recipes from the GF category. Are these recipes GF?
    "Oats are NOT gluten free."
    "There is nothing gluten free about this recipe. The rye and oat ingredients add enough gluten to this recipe to make it toxic ."

    Umm Kathy you are running into a problem with spelt on the second one anyway. While many can tolerate it, many cannot. Spelt is a wheat. It is just an early form of wheat. Our modern crops come from this ancestor and it does carry gluten just in very low amounts however I would hate to risk it with someone.

    Many say that it is acceptable however it does contain gluten and can be quite iffy. We use it a lot and did some research on it to see what benefit the wife could get from it on her heart diet. Plus we like the flavor of it too.

    Also note that Kamut also contains gluten
    from the same source:

    That makes them NOT gluten free and I would be real leery of that title in association with anything containing those two products.

    the oats thing, it's not that they have gluten, naturally, I've heard (from my brothers doctors and many other places too actually) that oats are commonly contaminated with gluten when they are being packaged or dealt with because most places that deal with oats also deal with wheat and such grains. It is possible to find oats that say "GLUTEN FREE" and those are the oats which could be used. I might sugest stating on there to get gluten free oats rather than taking it off just because it contains oats. hope this helps some... icon_question.gif
