    Hi Janet and welcome!

The recipe in her book for "K-Smart Apple Dumplings" is followed by a sauce called "Brandy Sauce." So I'll post that one.....

"Brandy Sauce for K-Smart Apple Dumplings"
    In a saucepan, melt:
    1/2 cup margarine or butter
    1/2 cup honey
    2 tablespoons dark molasses
    2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    2 tablespoons dark vinegar
    2 tablespoons lemon juice

Bring to a boil. Turn heat to low. Add:

    1 teaspoon ground ginger
    1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

In a blender, compnine until smooth:

    1 1/2 cups water
    2 1/2 tablespoons cornstartch

Stir into hot money-vinegar mxture. Keep at low boil, stir contantly until smooth and clear. Remove from the heat and add:

    2 tablespoons brandy extract

Serve warm over apple dumplings. Makes 6 servings.

Hope this is the one! Pam

We were talking about these great old coney sauces last night and when we opened the mail, my MIL had sent me this recipe at my request of about 3 weeks ago. It's from the old "Arcade Market" in Canton, Ohio, a place renowned for great coneys:

    Arcade Market Coney Sauce

    3 # ground beef
    1/3 cup regular chili powder
    1/2 cup sugar
1 gallon tomato puree (Red Pack brand)

Brown beef in an 8-qt. non-reactive pot, mashing chunks into fine pieces. Drain off fat and liquid. Reduce heat to medium and stir in chili powder. Add tomato puree and stir all.

Reduce heat to low and stir in the sugar. Simmer over low heat for 30 minutes.

Serve with mustard and onions on the side. Steam the buns.

This makes enough for 6 pounds of hot dogs. The sauce freezes well.

To me, that doesn't sound like many ingredients but, who knows? Could be a great sauce!
